تُريدْ يا فُقَيرْ

تعمر أسواق أعراسك

You want, O poor one,

To build markets for your weddings,

أنت عُبْيْد مسيَّر

أنت عُبْيْد مسيَّر

You are a driven slave,

ميِلَك احكامْ

ميلك أحكامْ

Your possessions rule,

Your possessions rule,

فِرَاسَكْ ارضى لا تتحير

حَتىْ تِطيبْ أنفاسْك

Your insight is pleased, do not waver,

Until your breath is sweetened,

ما يذوقْ مِنْ خَمْرَتْنا

غِيرْ من تطيِب أنفاسو

None will taste from our wine,

Except those whose breath is sweetened,

سلطانْ في حَضْرِتْنا

ساقي مدورْ كاسو

A sultan in our presence,

The cupbearer circulates his cup,

انظر بعينْ كمالك

في سرِّ هذا الحضرَه

Look with your eye of perfection,

At the secret of this presence,

وانفقْ عليها مالك

ولا تزغ بنظره

And spend your money on it,

And do not divert your gaze,

تحظى بنوَرْ جمالكْ

وتنالْ فيها البُشرى

You will enjoy the light of your perfection,

And you will attain good news in it,

انظرْ بنظرتِنا

في سِرّ الكمال وناسوا

Look with our gaze,

At the secret of perfection and forget others,

سلطانْ في حَضرِتْنا

ساقي مدورْ كاسو

A sultan in our presence,

The cupbearer circulates his cup,

سلطانْ هذا الحَضْره

ساقي وَنِعْمَ الساقي

A sultan this presence,

The cupbearer, and what a good cupbearer,

يُسقينا الرِّجالْ بالنظرهْ

من خمرِ القديمِ الباقي

Who gives men to drink with a glance,

From the enduring vintage wine,

يا سَعْدِنا وابُشْري

بوجوْد هذا الساقي

Oh our joy and good tidings,

With the existence of this cupbearer,

أعْوَرِضِنا مَطَرَتْنا

واحنا في ظل أعراسو

Our downpour missed us,

While we are in the shade of his weddings,

سلطان في حضرتنا

ساقِي مدور كاسو

A sultan in our presence,

The cupbearer circulates his cup,

إِذا تلالا بدركْ

انسبْ الثَنَا لِشْمَكْ

When your full moon rises,

Attribute the praise to your sun,

واعْرفْ مراتبْ قدرك

إِياكْ واحذرْ نَفْسَكْ

And know the degrees of your worth,

Beware of yourself,

فوضْ للهْ أمْرَكْ

في معناك وحِسَك

Entrust your matter to God,

In your meaning and your sense,

حاذِي أبوابْ حَضْرِتْنا

كلِّ بابْ خوذْ قياسو

Be a threshold of our presence,

Measure each threshold in its measure,

سلطان في حضرتنا

سافي مدور كاسو

A sultan in our presence,

The cupbearer circulates his cup,

هِمِّتَكْ اجعلها فِالله

تضحى الأمورْ فراجهْ

Make your resolve for God,

Matters will become easy,

والزمْ تقوى اللهْ

بِها انجا من نجا

And adhere to God's piety,

Through it the delivered were delivered,

ومن يتقِ اللهْ

يجعلْ لهْ مَخْرَجا

And whoever has piety of God,

He will make for him a way out,

هي أجفى حضرِتنا

وكذا يظهرْ ناسو

It is the most barren of our presence,

And so its people appear,

سلطان في حضرتْنا

ساقي مدورْ كاسو

A sultan in our presence,

The cupbearer circulates his cup,

طريقنا مُرْصَدَه

وسِيرْنا نوراني

Our path is patrolled,

And our conduct is luminous,

وِرْوَاحنا مرشده

وأرشدْ هِا ربّاني

And our spirits are guided,

And guided by the Lord,

وحُولْنا مِحْمدْ

ومددنا ربّاني

And our state is praiseworthy,

And our support is from the Lord,

من لَدَخَلْ زُمْرِتْنا

لايِنْ يَسْرِي براسو

Whoever enters our flock,

Will freely wander in it,

سلطان في حضرتنا

ساقي مدور كاسو

A sultan in our presence,

The cupbearer circulates his cup,

العبدْ عبدْ مَولاه

وَلوْ غَوى واعْتَدى

The servant is his Master's servant,

Even if he strays and transgresses,

ما زالْ يرجعْ لله

إِذا أرشدْ واهتدى

He still returns to God,

When guided and rightly-guided,

يعود ما هُو لمجراه

وينال كلْ افاده

He returns to his proper course,

And attains every benefit,

ويكونْ من سِرْبتنا

إِذا ضوَّا نبراسو

And will be of our flock,

When he lights his lamp,

سلطان في حضرتنا

ساقي مدور كاسو

A sultan in our presence,

The cupbearer circulates his cup,

سِيدِي طبيبْ مأدبْ

بَنيهْ اتْباعُه بالسِّرِ والحِكُمَه

My master, gentle healer,

Whose followers are secretly wise,

حالْ رقِيقْ مِهَدَبْ

بِكمل ذوقْ بِنَسْما

Of gentle, refined state,

With perfect taste and scent,

ولي اغْتَبْ أو كدَّبْ

هَداكْ مطموسْ اعمى

And if one is unrefined or lying,

Your guidance has blinded the blind,

انكر ضيا نَقْرِتنا

واشكر ظلامْ انحاسو

Deny the light of our drink,

And thank the darkness of their lamps,
