تقولُ والدَّمعُ قد ظلَّتْ بوادِرُهُ
تَبُلُّ ما بينَ أذيالِي وأزْياقِي
You say, while tears have made their omens manifest,
Moisten between my waist-sash and my anklets,
لا تَبكِ وانتظِرِ العُقْبى فَرُبَّتَما
ضَحِكْتَ يومَ التفَافِ السَّاقِ بالسَّاقِ
"Do not weep; wait for the restitution, for ofttimes
You have laughed on the day of intertwining shank with shank.
فإنَّ مَنْ جَمَعَ الزوجينِ قبلَكَ لا
يَعبا بأُلفتِنَا بعدَ التَّفِرَّاقِ
So, He who joined the pair before you will not
Be vexed by our amity after separation."
