No pain has touched your body,

O light, while the world is darkness.

With me alone do not complain,

and illness will flee from you in the morning.

It is more appropriate that I bear it from you,

For the master relieves the boy.

You have a long life, so remain,

and I will ransom you, O son of Salam.

How sweet was the pigeon sent

as a gift to us from you in the morning!

By my life! I have not complained,

but the days complained, and the Muslims, and Islam.

An illness that no drink could cause

    whose nature drinking would oppose.

Rather, a soul's ambition brought it on,

which knows no bound or resolve.

What body can bear carrying a soul

that withers from its ambitions and values?

    And when souls are great,

the bodies are wearied by their wants.

And it is rare that we can heal you

with books, neither false cures nor amulets.

What lies between us of distance

demands a crawling even from the legless.

It is just that the dear one among the people

is dearer to you than rubble.

Curse upon the fate that is not pleased

until its nobility equals the vile!

Seldom are the noble praised and an era passes

    without dispraise of the noble.

Other than innovation, we have not seen

a noble one whose traits time altered.

As for so-and-so, they visited you.

Greetings and peace be upon you wherever you are from us.
