Be still, my wounds,
Be still, O wounds,
And hush, my sorrows,
And be silent, O sorrows,
The days of lament are gone,
The age of wailing has died,
And the age of madness is past.
And the time of madness,
The dawn has risen
And the morning has dawned
Beyond the centuries.
From beyond the centuries.
In the ravines of ruin
In the ravines of demise,
I have buried my pain
I have buried my pain,
And scattered my tears
And scattered my tears
To the winds of oblivion.
To the winds of the void,
I have taken life
And I have taken life
As a lute for music
As a lute for melody,
To sing upon it
Upon which I sing
In the fields of time,
In the vastness of time,
And melted my sorrows
And I dissolved my grief
In the beauty of existence,
In the beauty of existence,
And filled my heart
And I spread out my heart
As a sanctuary for hymns,
As an oasis for song,
And light and shade,
For light and for shadows,
Dew drops and roses,
For fragrance and roses,
Passion and youth,
For passion and youth,
Hope and affection.
For dreams and for tenderness.
Be still, my wounds,
Be still, O wounds,
And hush, my sorrows,
And be silent, O sorrows,
The days of lament are gone
The age of wailing has died,
And the age of madness is past.
And the time of madness,
The dawn has risen
And the morning has dawned
Beyond the centuries.
From beyond the centuries.
In my spacious heart
In my spacious heart
Is a temple of beauty
There is a temple for beauty,
Built by life
Constructed by life
With visions and dreams.
With visions and fancy,
There I recited my prayers
So I recited my prayer
In the sanctity of shades,
In the reverence of shadows,
And burned incense
And I burned the incense,
And lit candles.
And I lit the candles.
The magic of life
For the magic of life
Is everlasting, imperishable,
Is eternal and fades not,
Why then complain
So why the complaint
Of surrounding darkness?
Of a darkness that shifts?
The dawn comes
Then the morning arrives,
And seasons pass.
And the seasons pass by,
Spring shall come,
A spring will return
If spring is destined.
If a spring has gone by.
Be still, my wounds,
Be still, O wounds,
And hush, my sorrows,
And be silent, O sorrows,
The days of lament are gone,
The age of wailing has died,
And the age of madness is past.
And the time of madness,
The dawn has risen
And the morning has dawned
Beyond the centuries.
From beyond the centuries.
Beyond the darkness,
From beyond the darkness,
And the roar of waters,
And the roar of the waters,
The dawn has called me,
The morning has called me,
And the spring of life,
And the spring of life,
What an invitation!
Oh, what a call!
Its echo shook my heart.
Its echo shook my heart.
I can no longer linger
I can no longer linger
In these lands.
Upon these lands,
Farewell, farewell,
Farewell, farewell!
O mountains of sorrow,
O mountains of care,
O mists of grief,
O fog of despair,
O ravines of hell,
O valleys of hell,
My boat has sailed
My boat has set sail
Through the great unknown.
On the boundless deep,
I spread my sails,
And I have hoisted the sails,
So farewell, farewell!
So farewell, farewell!
