يا أَيُّها النُّورُ النَّقِيٌّ
وأيُّها الفجرُ البعيدْ
O light so pure and clear,
O dawn so far away,
أين اختفيتَ وما الَّذي
أَقْصاكَ عن هذا الوُجُودْ
Where have you vanished? What force
Has banished you from this existence?
آهٍ لقدْ كانتْ حَياتي
فيكَ حالمةً تَمِيدْ
Ah, for my life within you
Was once a swaying dream,
بَيْنَ الخَمائِلِ والجَداوِلِ
والتَّرنُّمِ والنَّشيدْ
Amidst the groves and flowing brooks,
The chanting and the song,
تُصغي لنجواكَ الجميلَةِ
وهي أُغنِيَةُ الخٌلودْ
Listening to your lovely whisper,
That anthem of eternity,
وتعيشُ في كونٍ من
الغَفَلاتِ فتَّانٍ سَعيدْ
Living in a universe of
Sweet oblivion, enchanting and glad.
آهٍ لقدْ غنَّى الصَّباحُ
فدَمْدَمَ اللَّيلُ العَتيدْ
Ah, the morning sang its tune,
Then the ancient night snarled low;
وتأَلَّقَ النَّجمُ الوضِيءُ
فأَعْتَمَ الغيمُ الرَّكُودْ
The luminous star sparkled bright,
But the stagnant cloud turned it dark;
ومضَى الرَّدى بسَعَادتي
وقضى على الحُبِّ الوَليدْ
And Doom departed with my joy,
Putting an end to newborn love.
