1. Say whatever you please to me—I shall not turn away.

    Do not fear that I will forget, or exchange you for another.

  2. And how could one forget you who, after you, no longer knows

    the taste of life, nor, far from you, has found solace?

  3. You have consumed me with passion and worn me away with sorrow;

    you have torn me apart with longing and afflicted me with maladies.

  4. If I have betrayed you and secretly harbored thoughts of forgetting, may I never

    attain, O my hope, through nearness to you, the hope I seek.

  5. By God, my soul has never clung to anyone but you,

    nor have I taken anyone other than you as a substitute for you.
