أَمَولايَ بُلِّغتَ أَقصى الأَمَل

وَسُوِّغتَ دَأباً نَساءَ الأَجَل

My master, you have attained the height of hope,

And you have justified the toil of time's daughters,

وَعُمِّرتَ ما شِئتَ في دَولَةٍ

تُقَصِّرُ عَنها طِوالُ الدُوَل

You have lived as long as you wished in a kingdom,

Before which the lengths of dynasties fall short.

فَأَنتَ الَّذي غُرُّ أَفعالِهِ

تَحَلّى بِها الدَهرُ بَعدَ العَطَل

You are the one whose brilliant deeds

Have adorned the ages after stagnation.

يُشَرِّفُ مَملوكَكَ المُستَرَقَّ

نَظمٌ مِنَ الكَلِمِ المُنتَخَل

Your purchased slave is honored

By a string of selected words.

وَراحٌ تُعيدُ إِلى مَن أَسَنَّ

طيبَ زَمانِ الصِبا المُقتَبَل

And by a spirit that brings back to one who was excellent

The fragrance of the time of blossoming youth.

فَأَخجَلَني البِرُّ مِن فَرطِهِ

وَإِنَّ الجَوابَ لَيُبدي الخَجَل

So goodness has shamed me to excess,

And answering indeed reveals embarrassment.

وَقَد يَقبَلُ الدَهرُ مَولى الأَنا

مِ جُهدَ العُبَيدِ إِذا ما أَقَلّ

Time may accept the lord of grace

With the efforts of slaves, however little.

سَعِدتَ كَما سَعِدَ المُشتَري

وَنِلتَ عُلاً لَم يَنَلها زُحَل

You have been fortunate as the buyer was fortunate,

And you have attained a glory that no planet attained.
