أَجَزْتُكُمْ مَرْوِيَّنَا مُطْلَقاً

وَمَا لَنَا يُعْزَى بِقَوْلٍ وَجِيزْ

I grant you unrestricted permission to transmit our narrations,

And all that is ascribed to us, in a single concise phrase;

وَلَوْ جَرَى الْحُكْمُ عَلَى رَسْمِهِ

لَكُنْتَ إِذْ أَنْتَ الْأَجَلَّ الْمُجِيزْ

Yet had the matter followed its proper custom,

You would be the grantor, for you are the most exalted.
