أَخَذُوا لِلْحِمَارِ بِنْتِ الْحِمَارِ

فَمُرُوا مَنْ يَرُدُّهَا بِانْتِهَارِ

They have taken the donkey's daughter for the donkey,

So command someone to drive her back with a stern rebuke.

لاَ عَدِمْتُمْ مُنىً وَرُدَّتْ عَلَيْكُمْ

شَارِدَاتُ الْعُلاَ ذَوَاتُ النِّفَارِ

May you never be deprived of your wishes, and may there return to you

Those elusive heights of glory, so prone to shy away.

وَسَلاَمٌ مِنَ الْمُحِبِّ ابْنِ زَاكُو

رٍ كَنَشْرِ الأَزَاهِرِ فِي الأَسْحَارِ

And a greeting of peace from the affectionate friend, Ibn Zakou-

-r, like the fragrance of blossoms in the early dawns.
