She departed, and so my peace departed from my domain,

And sorrows, with their sharp blade, uprooted my joy.

I complain to the noble master of time's mystery,

The supreme commander, about the malice of her troops.

She went away, and so my comfort slipped from my palms,

For my solace lies in union with her, far from her rejection.

And in her glance, or her utterance, or her gentle reproach,

During an affectionate turn that draws me closer to her love.

And in her words of blame, driven by what stirs within her—

Be it cruelty or haughtiness in her intentions.

And her swaying stride through her chambers, her hips quivering

Beneath the straight, spear-like elegance of her stature.

And her proud stance in her place, overflowing

With wondrous vanity for the blooms in the garden of her cheek.

And her coquetry, in her exquisite beauty and perfection,

Provoking fury in her neighbor and grief in her rival.

And her playfulness, or her pride in her luxurious bliss,

And her fragrance that shames the sweet breath of ambergris.

Who could restore all of this to me? Nay, it cannot be!

What remains for me but the malicious gloating of her foes?
