Draw from the grace of the Lord of the Glorious Throne,
In the sanctuary of contentment, 'Abd al-Majid.
And seek his pleasure at his door,
With poetry and beneficial speech.
And compose there a poem,
In his praise, stringing unique pearls.
For by praising him, poetry ascends,
And the chanting of it is made sweet.
And the one who praises him attains glory
Surpassing even Ziyad or 'Ubayd.
And say: 'The lowly servant is at your door,
Hoping for healing, and nothing more.'
O my master, 'Abd al-Majid,
O you, the masterful healer,
O treasure of whoever seeks him,
Hoping for newfound wealth or ancient heritage.
O meeting place of the two seas, the sea
Of light and immense bounty.
O you whose mind is enraptured
By the love of the Praiseworthy Lord.
Oh, what a saint! Intoxicated
By goblets of wine that never perish.
Before existence, it was poured
By the spirit of the Cupbearer for the seeker.
The soul grew drunk on it while the vine
Was yet uncreated; an adornment for the felicitous soul.
How could it have a beginning,
When its pure essence is the Originator, the Restorer?
Whoever tastes a single sip of it,
Is truly the rightly guided, or the martyr.
So rejoice in this intoxication
That has secured you from the Divine Threat.
And through it, the days of your lifetime
Have all become weddings and festivals.
It elevated you to Paradise
Even before descending to the earth.
It kept you alive after death, annihilating
The false and vain among the servants.
So seize through it the remaining bliss,
For whenever it seems to wane, it only grows.
And listen to the one who calls upon you
With the products of a sluggish mind,
With words that awaken and arouse
The resolves of the valiant hero.
Hasten for him what he desires
Of your bounty that heals the heartbroken.
And for whoever visits your tomb,
Enraptured, in the guise of a newborn.
And for whoever, to praise your majesty,
Is urged by one of sound judgment.
And intercede for us, O my master,
For security from the Lord's severe grasp.
And by the best of God's creation, our master,
Muhammad, the unique and peerless.
My support, the Messenger of God, the Seal
Of His messengers, the crown jewel of the poem.
May the purest of blessings wash over him,
Its sweet fragrance lingering for all eternity.
And may it encompass his family and the Companions,
Those of lofty and enduring glory.
