أَيْنَ عَهْدُكُمُ الْمُؤَكَّدُ أَيْنَا

أَنِقِيضَ الْمُرَادِ كُنَّا ارْتَضَيْنَا

Where is your solemn covenant, where?

Have we settled for the exact opposite of our desire?

لَوْ عَلِمْنَا اطِّرَادَ نَقْضٍ لَدَيْكُمْ

لَلَهَجْنَا بِعَكْسِ مَا قَدْ نَوَيْنَا

Had we known your endless habit of breaking vows,

We would have spoken the reverse of our true intent.

قُلْتُمْ تَصْرِمُونَ وَصْلَ أُنَاسٍ

وَتَرُدُّونَ صَفْوَ ذَاكَ إِلَيْنَا

You promised to sever your connection with others,

And restore the pure essence of that affection to us.

مَا وَفَيْتُمْ حَتَّى نَقَضْتُمْ لَدَيْهِمْ

كُلَّمَا كُنْتُمُ غَزَلْتُمْ لَدَيْنَا

You kept no faith; instead, you unraveled for them

Every thread of devotion you had once spun for us.

لَسْتُمُ الْخَائِبِينَ بَلْ مَنْ حَجَاكُمْ

لِلْوَفَاءِ أَهْلاً فَصَادَفَ مَيْنَا

You are not the disappointed ones; rather, it is he who deemed you

Worthy of loyalty, only to be met with lies.
