نَسِيمَ الصَّبَا بَلِّغْ تَحَِّيةَ مُدْنِفٍ
إِلَى مَنْ بِهِ حِلْفُ الْكَآبَةِ مُولَعُ
O eastern breeze, convey the greeting of a love-sick soul,
To the one whom this sworn companion of sorrow passionately adores.
فَإِنْ قَالَ مَا حَالُ الْمُحِبِّفَقُلْ لَهُ
بِعَادُكَ أَضْنَى قَلْبَهُ فَهْوَ مُوجَعُ
And if he asks, "How fares the lover?" then say to him:
"Your distance has wasted his heart away, leaving it in torment."
قُصَارَاهُ إِنْ شَبَّتْ لَظَى الشَّوْقِ فِي الْحَشَا
زَفِيرٌ تُلَبِّيهِ عَلَى الْفَوْرِ أَدْمُعِي
His only recourse, when the flames of longing ignite within his depths,
Is a deep sigh, answered instantly by my tears.
