أَبَى هَاشِمٌ إِلاَّ مُضَاهَاةَ هَاشِمٍ

أَبِيهِ أَبِي آلِ النَّبِيِّ الْخَضَارِمِ

Hashim refused anything but to emulate Hashim,

His forefather, the patriarch of the Prophet's bountiful lineage,

عَلَى مَنْ بِهِ قَدْ شَرَّفُوا أَشْرَفَ الْوَرَى

صَلاَةٌ وَتَسْلِيمٌ وَرَحْمَةُ رَاحِمِ

Upon the one through whom they attained honor, the noblest of mankind,

Be blessings, peace, and the mercy of the Merciful.

حَوَى هَاشِمٌ هَذَا الأَخِيرُ زَمَانُهُ

مَشَابِهَ مِنْ عَمْرِوالْعُلاَ الْمُتَقَادِمِ

This latter Hashim of our time has gathered

The noble traits of the ancient Amr al-Ula,

وَقَدْ كَانَ فِي هَشْمِ الثَّرِيدِ لِقَوْمِهِ

عَظِيمُ غَنَاءٍ فِي السِّنِينِ الْعَظَائِمِ

Who was, in crushing bread into broth for his people,

A great source of relief during the devastating years.

مَكَارِمُ هَذَا أَنْشَرَتْ جُودَ جَدِّهِ

وَكَانَ رَمِيماً فِي ضَرِيحِ الْمَكَارِمِ

The noble deeds of this man have resurrected the generosity of his forefather,

When it was but decaying bones in the tomb of noble virtues.

سَقَى شَجَرَاتِ الْعُرْفِ فَضْلاً فَأَثْمَرَتْ

ثَنَاءً جَمِيلاً عَنْبَرِيَّ النَّوَاسِمِ

He watered the trees of goodness with his grace, and they yielded

A beautiful praise, carried on ambergris-scented breezes.
