O this olive tree,
You have spared us a heavy burden,
With your shade, where flutter
Its intricately woven branches.
And the wind blows gently, proclaiming
Coolness and soothing softness.
And the heat, had it claimed us,
Would have unleashed its hidden fury upon us.
But the breezes of the forenoon
Have broken its horns,
And pulled out its fangs,
And blinded its eyes,
And clipped its claws,
Which were never safe to trust,
And blunted its sharp edges,
Even though they were fiercely honed.
Its cauldron was boiling fiercely,
So they countered its contents,
And extinguished its fires,
And cracked its vessel.
Praise be to Him who granted us
This breeze as a shield against it.
