مَا لِمَنْ مَسَّهُ مِنَ الْفَقْرِ دَاءُ

غَيْرَ قَصْدِ رَبِّ الْجَمَالِ دَوَاءُ

He who is touched by the disease of poverty has no

Cure other than seeking the Lord of Beauty.

نَجْلُ أَحْمَدَ يُوسُفَ الْخَيْرِ مَنْ

حَفَّتْ بِصَنْهَاجَةٍ بِهِ الأَضْوَاءُ

The son of Ahmad, Yusuf of goodness, he

By whom Sanhaja was surrounded with illuminating lights.

مَنْبَعُ الْفَضْلِ وَالسِّيَادَةِ وَالسُّؤْ

دَدِ مَنْ خُتِمَتْ بِهِ الأَوْلِيَاءُ

The fountainhead of grace, mastery, and sovereign-

-ty, the one by whom the saints are sealed.

صاحٍ عَرِّجْ بِهِ وَلُذْ بِحِمَاهُ

فَحِمَاهُ بَفِيضُ فِيهِ العَطَاءُ

O companion, stop by him and take refuge in his sanctuary,

For in his sanctuary, bountiful giving overflows.

وَالْتَزِمْ قَبْرَهُ فَعَرْفُ شَذَاهُ

مِنْ لَظَى مُضْرَمِالْخُطُوبِ شِفَاءُ

And hold fast to his grave, for the fragrance of its scent

Is a cure from the blazing fire of kindled calamities.

وَتَشَفَّعْ لَهُ بِكُلِّ هُمَامٍ

سَيِّدٍ عَلَّهُ السَّنَا وَالسَّنَاءُ

And beseech him by every noble hero,

A master crowned with radiance and exalted majesty.

بِالْفِلاَلِي شَيْخِهِ سَيِّدِي مَسْ

عُودِ مَنْ أُسْعِدَتْ بِهِ سُعَدَاءُ

By al-Filali, his sheikh, my master Mas-

-ud, by whom the fortunate are granted joy.

وَبِغَازِي خُطُوبِ مَنْ قَدْ أَتَاهُ

سَيِّدِي الْغَازِي مَنْ غَزَاهُ الثَّنَاءُ

And by the conqueror of the calamities of whoever comes to him,

My master Al-Ghazi, he who is conquered by praise.

فَهُمَا مَنْبَعَا سَنَاهُ وَكَنْزَا

سِرِّهِ اللَّذْ صَفَتْ بِهِ الأَصْفِيَاءُ

For they are the twin springs of his radiance and the two treasures

Of his secret, by which the chosen ones are purified.

وَهُمَا أَقْعَدَاهُ فِي رُتْبَةٍ غَ

صَّتْ بِفَرْطِ سَنَائِهَا الْجَوْزَاءُ

And they both seated him in a rank that over-

-whelmed the Gemini constellation with its excessive brilliance.

وهُمَا أسْبَلا عليه وُروداً

تَزْدَري بِتَحْبِيرِهَا الشُّرَفاءُ

And they poured upon him spiritual graces

Whose adornment humbles the noble ones.

وَبِما أَلْبَساهُ مِنْ حُلَلِ الْمَجْ

دِ تَرْقى فَهابَهُ العُظَماءُ

And by the radiant robes of glo-

-ry they clothed him in, he ascended and the great stood in awe.

وَبِمَا أَوْلَيَاهُ مِنْ رُتَبِ الْعِ

زِّ أَقَرَّتْ بِفَضْلِهِ الْفُضَلاَءُ

And by what they bestowed upon him of the ranks of hon-

-or, the virtuous acknowledged his excellence.

أَيُّهَا الْمُنْتَمِي إِلَيْهِ بِقُرْبَى

وَطَمَى فَقْرُهُ وَطَالَ الْعَنَاءُ

O you who are related to him by kinship,

Whose poverty has overflowed and suffering prolonged,

وَعَرَتْهُ مِن الزَّمانِ خُطُوبٌ

نَدَّ من أَجْلِهِنَّ عَنْهُ الثَّراءُ

And whom the calamities of time have afflicted,

Causing wealth to flee from him because of them;

حُطَّ وِقْرَالرَّجاءِ حَوْلَ حِمَاه ُ

فَعَسى يَأْتِيَنْكَ مِنْهُ الشِّفاءُ

Lay down the heavy burden of your hopes around his sanctuary,

For perhaps healing will come to you from him,

وَعَسَى نَفْحَةٌ تُوَافِيكَ مِنْهُ

تَنْجَلِي بِتَنْعِيمِهَا الْبَأْسَاءُ

And perhaps a breeze of grace will reach you from him,

By whose comfort all adversity will be dispelled.

وَتَوَسَّلْ له بِقُرْبِكَ مِنهُ

فَبِذَاك َيَنْزَاحُ عَنْكَ الشَّقَاءُ

And beseech him through your closeness to him,

For by that, all misery will be lifted from you.

وَلْتَقُلْ سَيِّدِي عَرَتْنِي هُمومٌ

أَحْرَقَتْنِي من أَجْلِهَا الضََّّراءُ

And say: "My master, heavy sorrows have gripped me,

Because of which severe adversity has burned me.

سَيِّدي ليْسَ لِي سِواكَ أُرَجِّي

هِ لِعُسْرِي وَشَأْنُكَ الإِسْدَاءُ

My master, I have none but you to whom I look

For my hardship, and your nature is to bestow favors.

فَبِقُرْبِي إِلَيْكَ وَهْوَ خَليقٌ

بِإِجَابَتِي لَوْ يُجَابُ الدُّعَاءُ

So by my closeness to you—which is worthy

Of answering me, if a prayer is ever answered.

وَبِشَيْخِكُمْ ذِي الْمَآثِرِ مَسْعُو

دِ الْفِلاَلِي مَا لَهُ أَكْفَاءُ

And by your sheikh of glorious deeds, Mas-

-ud al-Filali, who truly has no equals.

وَبِشَيْخِهِ سَيِّدِي الْغَازِي غَازِي

جَيْشَ أَشْجَانِ مَنْ غَزَاهُ البَلاَءُ

And by his sheikh, my master Al-Ghazi, the conqueror

Of the army of sorrows of him whom affliction has conquered.

وَبِخَيْرِ الأَرْسَالِطُرّاً وَأَزْكَى

مَنْ أَتَتْ بِأَنْبَائِهِ الأَنْبِيَاءُ

And by the best of all messengers, and the purest

Of those whose tidings the prophets brought.

أَحْمَدُ الْمُصْطَفَى عَلَيْهِ صَلاَةُ ال

لَّهِ مَا أُوضِحَتْ بِهِ الأَشْيَاءُ

Ahmad the Chosen, upon him be the blessings of Al-

-lah, as long as all things are made clear by him.

وَعَلى آلِهِ وَأَصْحَابِهِ وَال

تَّابِعِينَ مَا سَحَّتِ الأَنْوَاءُ

And upon his family, his companions, and the

Followers, as long as the rain-clouds pour.

فَابْرُدَنْ بِجَدْوَاكَ غُلَّةَ عُسْرِي

مِثْلَمَا يَبْرُدُ الْغَلِيلَ الْمَاءُ

So cool the burning thirst of my hardship with your bounty,

Just as cool water quenches a burning thirst.

بِنَدَى جُودِكَ الذِي غَرِقَتْ فِي

بَحْرِهِ الأَقْصِيَاءُ وَالْقُرَبَاءُ

By the dew of your generosity, in whose

Sea both the distant and the near have drowned.

وَسَلامٌ عَلَى ضَرِيحِكَ مَا أَهْ

دَتْ شَذَاهَا حَدِيقَةٌ غَلْبَاءُ

And peace be upon your tomb, as long as it is offer-

-ed fragrant scents by a lush, luxuriant garden."
