1. جِئْتُكُمْ مُقْتِراً أَبَا الْعَبَّاسِ

    مُدْرَجاً فِي لَفَائِفِ الإِفْلاَسِ

    I have come to you destitute, O Abu al-Abbas,

    wrapped in the shrouds of bankruptcy,

  2. رَاجِياً مِنْ نَوَالِكُمْ مُذْهِبَ الْفَقْ

    رِ وَمُحْيِي الْغِنَى وَمُفْنِي الْبَاسِ

    hoping from your bounty for that which dispels pover-

    -ty, revives wealth, and eradicates distress.

  3. هَاتِ فَضْلَكُمْ فَضْلَ رَبِّ النَّاسِ

    لِلَّذِي قَدْ أَتَاكُمْ مِنْ فَاسِ

    Grant me your grace, the grace of the Lord of mankind,

    to the one who has come to you from Fes,

  4. رَاجِلاً رَاجِياً خَلاَصاً وَقَدْ أَنْ

    شَبَ فِيهِ الْعَنَا مَخَالِبَ فَاسِ

    on foot, hoping for deliverance, as hardship has fas-

    -tened the talons of an axe into him.

  5. وَنَسَاهُ مِمَّا قَسَا خَطْوُهُ قَدْ

    مَضَغَتْهُ الأَوْجَاعُ بِالأَضْرَاسِ

    And his sciatic nerve, from the severity of his strides, has

    been chewed to pieces by the molars of pain.

  6. هَا أَنَا رُدْتُ مِنْ جَنَابِكَ رَوْضاً

    مُثْمِراً بِمُبَدِّدِ الإِبْلاَسِ

    Here I am, seeking from your presence a garden,

    fruitful with that which dissipates despair.

  7. وَبَنَاتُ الرَّجَاءِ بَيْنَ رُبَاهُ

    لِنَخِيلِ الْمُنَى ذَوَاتِ اغْتِرَاسِ

    And the daughters of hope among its hills

    are planting the palm trees of aspirations.

  8. وَشَفِيعِي أَنْ كَانَ لاَ بُدَّ لِي مِنْ

    شُفَعَاءَ إِلَى جَنَاهُ الآسِ

    And my intercessor, if I must inevitably have

    intercessors to its healing harvest,

  9. نُورُ شَمْسِ الْهُدَى الإِمَامِ أَبُو الْفَضْلِ

    عِيَاضٌ طَوْدُ الْعُلُومِ الرَّاسِي

    is the light of the sun of guidance, the Imam Abu al-Fadl

    Iyad, the firmly rooted mountain of sciences;

  10. بَلَدِيِّكُمْ مَنْ شَفَى بِالشِّفَا مَا

    قَدْ تَعَاصَى قِدْماً عَلَى كُلِّ آسِ

    your townsman, who cured with 'Ash-Shifa' what

    had long defied every physician;

  11. وَشَرِيكُكُمْ فِي الْمَقَامِ بِمُرَّا

    كُشَ حَيْثُ الْعُلاَ بِكُمْ فِي احْتِرَاسِ

    and your companion in the resting place in Marra-

    -kesh, where greatness is guarded by you;

  12. وَأَخُوهُ فِيمَا رَوَاهُ عَنِ ابْنِ الْ

    عَرَبِيِّ الإِمَامِ رَوْضِ الآسِ

    and his brother in what he narrated from Ibn al-

    -Arabi the Imam, the fragrant garden of myrtle;

  13. أَيْ أَبُو الْقَاسِمِ السُّهَيْلِي رَبُّ ال

    رَّوْضِ رَوْضِ الْعُلُومِ ذِي الأَنْفَاسِ

    namely, Abu al-Qasim al-Suhayli, master of Ar-

    -Rawd, the fragrant garden of sciences;

  14. وَجَمِيعُ الْمُجَاوِرِينَ لَكُمْ فِي

    ذَا الصَّعِيدِ السَّعِيدِ مِنْ آسَاسِ

    and all those who dwell adjacent to you in

    this blissful soil, down to its foundations;

  15. كَالْجَزُولِي ذِي دَلاَئِلِ خَيْرَا

    تٍ وَأَتْبَاعِهِ هُدَاةِ النّاسِ

    like al-Jazuli, author of 'Dala'il al-Khayra-

    -t', and his followers, the guides of mankind.
