O desire that I have ceaselessly repeated,

Singling it out with affection and setting it apart,

Aid from Allah, the Exalted, followed by

The greatest of fortunes for the one who fulfills it.

And who could fulfill it other than my patron,

The support of our masters and their sovereign,

The highest of them in rank and the greatest of them

In prestige, the most exalted and most fortunate of them,

The least of them in harm and the most of them

In benefit, the most forbearing and most generous of them,

The shortest of them in worldly ambition, and the longest of them

In reach, the most formidable and most glorious of them.

Abd al-Ilah, who brings comfort to all others

Whenever the hand of calamity reveals itself.

The ornament of the vizierate, the crown upon its head,

Nay, the kohl of its eye and the wand that applies it.

May he remain thus, for his permanence

Perpetuates our joys and brings them into being.

May he remain with comforted eyes, delighted

By that which guards greatness and comes to its aid,

    إِنْ بَلِيَتْ حُلَّةٌ يُجَدِّدُهَا

    Wearing garments woven from his own praise;

Should one garment wear out, he renews it.
