يَا جَمِيلَ الصَّبْرِ لَبِّ مَنْ دَعَا
قَبْلَ أَنْ يَقْضِيَ مِمَّا فُجِعَا
O beautiful patience, answer the one who calls out,
before he perishes from the tragedy that has struck him.
لَبِّ شَخْصاً جَزِعاً مِنْ مَوْتِ مَنْ
ذَابَ مِنْ خَشْيَةِ رَبِّي جَزَعَا
Answer a soul distraught over the death of one who
melted away in profound awe and fear of my Lord.
وَالْزَمِي يَا رَحْمَةَ اللهِ الذِي
كَانَ مِنْ رَحْمَتِهِ مُجْتَمِعَا
And cling, O mercy of Allah, to the one who
was entirely composed of His boundless mercy.
وَاخْدُمَنْ يَا عَفْوَ رَبِّي سَيَّداً
كَانَ لِلْعَفْوِ عَنِ الْجَانِي وَعَا
And serve, O forgiveness of my Lord, a master
who was a vessel of pardon for the wrongdoer.
وَاحْتَسِبْ يَا طَالِبَ الْعِلْمِِ امْرَأً
مَاتَ فِيهِ الْعِلْمُ وَالدِّينُ مَعَا
Seek your reward from Allah in grief, O seeker of knowledge, for a man
with whom knowledge and religion have died together.
وَانْبُذَنَّ الْخَلْقَ طُرّاً بَعْدَ مَنْ
كَانَ فِيهِ الْخَلْقُ طُرّاً جُمِعَا
And cast aside all of humanity after the one
in whom all the virtues of creation were gathered.
وَاقْتَصِرْ وَاللهِ مَا نَعْلَمُ مِنْ
أَحَدٍ قَدْ سَدَّ مِنْهُ مَوْضِعَا
Cease your searching, for by Allah, we know of no one
who could ever fill the void he left behind.
أَقْصَدَ الْيُوسِيَّ سَهْمٌ مِنْ رَدَى
أَثْكَلَ الْعَالَمَ فِيهِ أَجْمَعَا
An arrow of death has struck Al-Yusi,
bereaving the entire world of his presence.
ضَعْضَعَ الْمَوْتُ الإِمَامَ الأَرْوَعَا
أَيُّ رُكْنٍ لِرَشَادٍ ضَعْضَعَا
Death has brought down the magnificent Imam;
what a mighty pillar of guidance it has shattered!
حَجَّ مِنْهُ بَيْتَ عِلْمٍ إِثْرَ مَا
حَجَّ بَيْتَ اللهِ بَرّاً أَوْرَعَا
Death visited a house of knowledge in him, right after
he had visited the House of Allah, righteous and devout.
وَسِعَتْ حُفْرَةُ قَبْرٍ ضَيِّقٍ
مَنْ لِخَلْقِ اللهِ طُرّاً وَسِعَا
The pit of a narrow grave has now encompassed
one whose heart once encompassed all of Allah's creation.
ضَاقَتِ الأَرْضُ بِنَا وَهْيَ التِي
رَحُبَتْ لَمَّا نَعَاهُ مَنْ نَعَى
The earth closed in upon us, despite its vastness,
the moment the herald of death proclaimed his passing.
فَتَصَامَمْنَا وَهَيْهَاتَ فَمَا
يَنْفَعُ الْمُثْكِلَ أَنْ لاَ يَسْمَعَا
We feigned deafness, but alas, it is of no use—
what good is it for the bereaved to refuse to hear?
بِأَبِي مَنْ زَارَ قَبْرَ الْمُصْطَفَى
بَعْدَ مَا طَافَ وَلَبَّى وَسَعَى
May my father be a ransom for him who visited the Chosen One's tomb,
after circling the Kaaba, answering the divine call, and striving between the hills.
وَانْثَنَى تَكْنُفُهُ أَنْوَارُهُ
ثُمَّ مَا سَلَّمَ حَتَّى وَدَّعَا
He returned, enveloped by its radiant lights,
and scarcely gave his greeting of peace before bidding a final farewell.
