My eyelids are afflicted with insomnia
My eyelids are afflicted with sleeplessness,
To God, my eyelids found no rest
By God, what my eyelids have endured!
And my night grew long, so I suffered
And my night grew long, and so suffered
My heart burned with the fire of my suffering
My heart in the fire of my burning passion.
I woke up in sorrow during the darkness
I cried out in sorrow in the deep darkness,
Exhausted and anxious
As one burdened by infatuation and anxiety.
O darkness of the night, be gentle
O darkness of the night, be gentle
With what remains of my vigor
With what is left of my dying breath.
Oh, if only the length of my sleeplessness
Oh, would that my prolonged sleeplessness
Knew how much of it remains
Knew how much of it remains,
And whether there is a crack in it for me
And whether it will ever have a dawn.
