Had you not been unfaithful, O my sun and moon

Rather, O my life and hearing and sight

I would not have complained, nor would the dejected one say anything

Who will do me justice against the squint-eyed one with languishing eyes?

I rode the sea of passion recklessly

And the souls of lovers are souls that have been deprived

If only they were burnt with fire, they would not be pitied

From every soul that patience has quenched and extinguished

A gazelle that is endowed with beauty that has been divided

Between the sand dune, the branch, and the flower

Whoever hopes for his affection has scorned it and for her

He has armed himself with a glance that is not for him or her

With it she has seduced someone overtly, with it she has seduced one infatuated

His glances have resulted that he will not live for her

A love-struck one, even if he were as hard as stone
