A moon whose light puts lamps to shame
Many a graceful youth who shames the light of full moons,
Took my soul when misfortune came
Contracted my soul while expanding fractions;
His words destroyed my heart, commanding
His commanding word laid waste to my heart:
"Strike! Within it rupture and pour!"
"Multiply!"—a strike from which my innermost depths are rent with fissures.
I said, since his words led me there,
And so I said, as his utterance left me bewildered:
"To God all matters come to bear."
"Verily, to God do all matters return!"
