The abodes are vacant of the traveling caravans,
The dwellings are devoid of the unveiled full moons,
So the faces of my hopes for that reason are dejected.
And so the faces of my hopes are thereby sullen.
Longing robbed the bliss from their bodies,
Their night departure stripped the joy from my body,
And uprooted the first and last of what I hoped for.
And uprooted the first of my hopes, and the last.
I gave them half of my heart when they came near,
I entrusted them with half my heart when they drew near,
So now when they have turned away, the rest has turned away.
But now, as they departed, they took away the rest.
The remains ordered the sighs to join me
My remaining behind commanded the heavy sighs to cast me
To the fire of melancholy, so they obeyed its commands.
Into the fire of melancholy, and they obeyed its commands.
Thus my heart quivers, and my mind is distraught,
Thus my heart is palpitating, and my mind
And my eyes from me are sleepless.
Is bewildered within me, and my eyes are ever wakeful.
And the lightning of passion is not subdued,
All this, and the lightning of longing is no deceptive flash,
If it flashes, my tears flow copiously.
For it never gleams but that the tears come pouring down.
