The greens of joy faded when Ahmad faded away
The verdure of joy has withered since the verdant one withered;
Upon your grave, grave of virtues and excellence
May God's peace be upon you, O our vibrant, blooming life.
Peace of God be upon you, our lively life
I could not praise the world without the light of Ahmad,
A complete, flawless peace from the one who betrayed
For can the pitch-black night be praised without a moon?
So I did not praise the world without Ahmad's light
He withered, and so our hopes withered—how grave is that which withered!
For can the inane night be praised without a moon?
While with him, those hopes were blossoming with flowers.
Our hopes melted when he melted away
Upon his grave, the grave of noble deeds and exalted heights,
Though through him hopes blossomed like flowers
A pure peace, untainted by the blemishes of betrayal.
If we are late in your burial rites
So if the prolongation of your time has eluded us, let there be
Let there be reward for us in placing you first
For us, in your early departure, a reward and a treasured provision.
And that is proportional to the calamity—truly
And that shall be in proportion to the calamity, for indeed it is,
Your right—the most painful that befell creation
By your right, the most devastating affliction to ever strike mankind.
We will be patient until patience unites us again
We shall remain patient until patience gathers us together,
And in patience, if its decree brings finest pride
And in patience, should it be fulfilled, lies the finest glory.
