I have fulfilled what was promised by our meeting
I have fulfilled what our meeting had promised,
And his promise was destined to come
And its promise was always bound to come.
That I quench the fire of separation
That I should burn in the flames of separation,
So it was inevitably fulfilled
Which was an absolute, inevitable decree.
The distance stirred up my passion
Parting has awakened my fervent yearning,
And made my determination a captive
And taken my mind captive once again.
And the distance caused my agony to blaze
Parting has set my anguish ablaze,
And made my heart roasted
And left my heart branded and seared.
And the distance disciplined my love
Parting has condemned my eyes
To shed tears excessively
To weep tears of blood in cruel excess.
And the absence of my beloved
And the estrangement of the master of my soul
Made my eyes shed tears all night
Has become fatal to my very core.
And my tormentor, with the torment of one
And my tormentor inflicts the agony of one
Who never professed a satisfactory religion
Who professes no acceptable faith.
I had said, on the day of his farewell,
I said at the moment of his farewell,
On the day of departure, longingly:
On the day of departure, uttering a wish:
Oh, if only before the farewell
Oh, would that I, before this farewell,
I had been completely forgotten
Had been a thing forgotten, utterly forgotten.
