Alas! Why has that gazelle made my affections
Ah, what is it with that gazelle, that he made my lifeblood
Stream down my eyes, though he is not softened?
A target for his eyes, and showed no tenderness?
I was not one whose heart is entered by love,
And I was never one whose heart love could ever enter,
But he who sees his eyelids loves him.
But whoever beholds his eyelids falls in love.
He rejected me, so I became deaf. My tears flowed copiously,
He shot me and struck me fatally, so down poured in torrents
Igniting my agony and burning passion.
My tears, which only kindled my anguish and my burning.
