The dawn of your guidance makes the mouth of time smile,

O One, from whose sea nations have come.

Fez rejoiced when you stayed there,

And without your sublime presence, Fez would not exist.

Its splendor is due to you, my Master, everlasting,

And its joy is due to you, my Master, ever bonding.

You gladdened your servant when he came to you depressed.

Indeed, anguish recedes with nearing you.

He came to you seeking the path of An-Nasiriyyah, for

In An-Nasiriyyah is a lasting victory.

Woe to it - what it desired was not worthy of itself.

The most beautiful appearance makes ready for the like of it.

You gave him respite until morning, so he stayed up all night

Kept awake by passion when dreams failed him.

He speaks to the night to unveil its darkness

And reveal the dawn, a sign for the beloved.

O ambergris of night, camphor of morning, come back,

Lest old age overtakes me due to your length.

If you do not bring me the morn, I will wake up in sorrow

And ah! A heart blazing over one whose heart is unfeeling.

You remain the standard of knowledge by which

The darkness of ignorance is illuminated when it becomes crowded.
