1. لا تَهُولنَّكَ شمسٌ كسفَتْ

    دون أن تطلعَ مِنْ مغربِها

    Do not let a sun eclipse unsettle you

    Without it rising again from the west

  2. هان ذاك الرُّزءُ فيها مثلما

    هانَ ما غرَّك من مَطْلَبِها

    That adversity will pass just as

    Whatever tempted you into seeking it passed

  3. هي نارٌ وافقتْ مُطْفِئَها

    لستَ بالآيس من مُلْهبِها

    It is a fire that met its extinguisher

    You should not despair of its flames

  4. فابكِ مَنْ تُشفِقُ من مَعْطَبِهِ

    فلقد أومِنْتَ من مَعْطِبها

    So cry for whoever you pity for their pain

    For you have found safety from its pain

  5. ضلَّ باكٍ إن أبيخت جمرةٌ

    سوف تُذكيها يَدا مُثْقبِها

    A weeping person gone astray if an ember grows cold

    Will have it rekindled by hands pierced by it

  6. ليس للشمسِ إذا ما كَسفَتْ

    غيرُ شمسٍ تَخْلُفُ الشمسَ بِها

    When an eclipse happens the sun

    Has no choice but another sun replacing it

  7. طَلَّةِ الصوتِ إذا ما غردت

    رَكِبَتْ بدعةُ في موكبها

    The singer's voice when it trills

    Innovation rides in its procession

  8. من بناتِ الروم لا يَكْذِبُنا

    لونُها المُشرق عن مَنْصبِها

    Of the Roman maidens we are not lied to

    By their radiant complexion from their stand

  9. قامةُ الغصن إذا ما اعتدلت

    قامةُ الغصن إلى مَنْكِبِها

    The posture of a branch when it straightens

    Is the posture of a branch to its shoulders

  10. شَهِدَ الشاهدُ مِنْ أحسَنِها

    فحكى الغائبَ من أطيَبِها

    The witness testified to the best of it

    Thus telling of the absent the most fragrant of it

  11. تشفَعُ الحُسنَ بإحسانٍ لها

    تجلُبُ الأفراح من مَجْلبِها

    Beauty intercedes through its kindness for it

    Drawing joys toward it

  12. فهي حَسْبُ العَيْن من نُزهتها

    وهي حسبُ الأُذن من مَطربِها

    It suffices the eye from its briskness

    And suffices the ear from its melody

  13. تشرعُ الألحاظُ في وجْنتها

    فتُلاقي الرِّيَّ في مَشْربِها

    The glances set forth into its dimples

    Thereupon meeting pleasure in its drinking place

  14. وجنةٌ للغُنْجِ فيها عقربٌ

    وبلاءُ الصب من عقربِها

    A paradise for the pearl in which there is a scorpion

    And the affliction of passion from its scorpion

  15. وإذا قامت إلى مَلعبها

    كمَهاةِ الرمل في رَبْرَبِها

    And when she stands up for her playing field

    Like the waving of sand in its waiver

  16. سألت أردافُها أعطافَها

    هل رأتْ أوطأ من مَرْكَبِها

    Her hips asked her shoulders

    Had they seen any ride better than her ride
