مديحُك من تعتفي فضلَه

هجاء ولكنه مُلغَزُ

Your praise from one who boasts of his merit

Is vituperation, but ‘tis an enigma

ومن رام بالشعر رِفْد امرئٍ

ففي جوعه عنده مغْمَزُ

He who hopes by his verse to feed some great man

In his famine with him there is a hidden hook
