لو تلفَّفتَ في كساءِ الكسائي

وتلبَّستَ فروة الفرَّاءِ

If you would wrap yourself in Kasa'i's cloak

And don Farraa's skin

وتَخلَّلتَ بالخليل وأضحى

سيبويه لديك رَهْنَ سِباءِ

And intersperse with Al-Khalil while Sibawayh becomes

A hostage of captivity to you

وتكوّنتَ من سوادِ أبي الأسـ

ـود شخصاً يُكنى أبا السوداءِ

And if you would form from Abu Al-Aswad's blackness

A man nicknamed Abu Al-Sawda'

لأَبَى اللَّهُ أن يَعدّك أهلُ الـ

ـعلمِ إلا من جملة الأغبياءِ

Still God would refuse those of knowledge

To count you other than among the foolish
