1. سبحان مُجري الفُلكِ والفَلَكِ

    ومُصَوّرِ الإنسانِ والمَلَكِ

    Glorious is He who drives the spheres and the orbits,

    And portrays mankind and the angels.

  2. إن السعيدَ لمدركٌ دركاً

    وأخو الشقاوةِ فهو في الدَّركِ

    Indeed the fortunate one attains his goal,

    While the brother of misery - he is in torment.

  3. والشرُّ بين الناسِ مشتركٌ

    والخيرُ فيهمْ غير مُشترك

    Evil amongst people is shared,

    While good amongst them is not shared.

  4. يتقارعونَ الموت عن مُسكٍ

    ومع القِراعِ إفاتةُ المُسك

    They race towards death over musk,

    Yet with racing - loss of musk.

  5. وكفاهُمُ من قتلِ أنفسِهم

    باثنين من وضحٍ ومن حلكِ

    It suffices them from killing themselves,

    With two from dating and from dissolving.

  6. في الليلِ كافٍ والنهارِ إذا

    هرجاهُمُ بمناحس الفلكِ

    At night it is enough, and daytime when

    It confounds them with the disasters of fate.

  7. وإلى الخمودِ مآلُ ذي لهَبٍ

    وإلى السكونِ محارُ ذي حَرك

    And to eternity is the destination of the flaming one,

    And to stillness the confused one of movement.

  8. طارَ الحِمامُ وغاص مُقتدراً

    فأماتَ حيَّ الطير والسمك

    The pigeon flew and dived competently,

    So it killed the living bird and fish.

  9. لا تُكذَبنَّ فما لذي نفرٍ

    فيها حريمٌ غيرُ مُنتهك

    Do not be lied to, for what is shameful

    In it has a sanctuary other than the violated.

  10. إن الزمانَ إذا غدا فعدا

    قتلَ الملوكَ بكلّ مُعترك

    Time, when it comes and goes

    Kills kings in every battlefield.

  11. ضَعفُ العوامل في أسنَّتها

    ضعفُ المغازل عنه في الفلك

    The weakness of factors on their parts

    Is the weakness of spindles from it in fate.

  12. نَسِيَ المتالفَ قلبُ مُنْهَمِكٍ

    فما يزاول كلَّ منهمَكِ

    The concordant heart of the immersed one forgot,

    So it does not frequent every immersed one.

  13. وغدا الرّجالُ على مكاسبهمْ

    يتبادرون مطارحَ الشَّبكِ

    And men came to their livelihoods

    Racing to spread the nets.

  14. والعينُ تُبصرُ أين حبَّتُها

    لكنها تعمى عن الشَّرك

    The eye sees where its beloved is,

    But it is blind to the partner.

  15. لذكرتُ هذا الموتَ فارتبكتْ

    نفسي هناك أشدَّ مُرتَبك

    I remembered this death and was disturbed,

    My soul there more disturbed.

  16. ما ضرَّ ذاكِرهُ وناظرهُ

    ألّا ينام على سِوى الحسكِ

    Harmful to its rememberer and its seer

    Is to sleep except on scrape.

  17. يا جِبلةً أملاكُها تِرَكٌ

    حتَّامَ ذُبُّكُمُ على التِّرَكِ

    O nature whose possessions are negligence,

    Your melting is destined upon negligence.
