فأما ابنُ بورانَ الذي تذكرونَه
فليس سوى اسمٍ مُفترى مُتكَذَّبِ
As for Ibn Būrān, whom you speak of,
he is nothing but a name—fabricated and falsely concocted.
ورُبَّ مُسمّىً لا حقيقةَ لاسمهِ
كعِرسٍ وآوى أو كعنقاءِ مُغرِبِ
Many a named being has no reality answering to its name,
as with Ibn ʿIrs, the weasel, and Ibn Āwā, the jackal—or the fabled ʿAnqāʾ Mughrib.
