بُليتَ بفلتةٍ فضحكتُ فَلتَهْ

فلا تغضبْ كلا الأمرين بَغْتَهْ

You were upset by a joke, so I laughed

So do not be angry, you wanted both

ولي فضلٌ عليك لأن فعلي

بغير أذى عليك فلِمْ كرهتَهْ

And I have a favor over you, because my act

Was without harm to you, so why did you hate it?

أتُسمِعُني الأذى وتُشِمُّنيهِ

وتَجشِمُني رضَى ما قد فعلتَهْ

Do you make me hear harm and smell it

And make me swallow the pleasure of what you have done?

وتغضبُ إنْ ضحكتُ بغير عمدٍ

ولم تسمعْ أذايَ ولا شَمِمتَهْ

And you get angry if I laugh unintentionally

And you did not hear harm or smell it
