1. أنَّى هجوتَ بني ثوابَهْ

    يا صاحبَ العينِ المُصابَهْ

    How could you insult the people of Thawaba

    O companion of the afflicted eye

  2. أهلَ السماحةِ والرجا

    حة والأصالة واللَّبابَهْ

    The people of generosity, dignity, origin, and intellect

    The leaders of authority and prestige

  3. القائلينَ الفاعليـ

    ـن أُولي الرياسة والنِّقابَهْ

    Those reaching glory and building it high above them like domes

    Taking the lead like courageous lions holding their tails

  4. والفارعينَ المجدَ والـ

    ـبانينَ فوقهُمُ قِبابهْ

    Nobles whose faces shine when they appear

    No lofty mountain remains that one could climb

  5. الآخذينَ بأنفهِ

    لا كالأُلى عِلِقوا ذِنابَهْ

    It is as though God made it smooth just for them

    If praise were borrowed for a day they would possess it

  6. نُجبٌ تلوح إذا بَدَوْا

    بوجُوهم غُررُ النجابهْ

    My Lord, their view—when sound opinion is lost—

    seeks the protection of the virtuous

  7. لم يبقَ طودٌ للعلا

    لا يرتقي أحدٌ هِضابهْ

    A flawless integrity if missing, they would look for it

    A people, if a crack appeared they would mend it

  8. إلا كأنَّ اللَّه ذل

    لَلَ عامداً لهمُ صِعابهْ

    And if wintry days betrayed, they followed clouds

    Their homes were made, along with the Ancient House, stations for us

  9. وإذا استعارَ الحمدَ يو

    ماً معشرٌ ملَكُوا رقابهْ

    We take successive rest in them whenever we wish

    The desperate takes refuge with them when our rope shakes

  10. يا رُبَّ رأيٍ فيهمُ

    لا تَبلغُ الآراءُ قابهْ

    No suppliant has called upon them without being answered

    How many have taken shelter with them when days harmed them

  11. وندىً إذا فُقِدَ النَّدى

    يتتبَّعُ العافي مُصابهْ

    Take from them a rope in tribulations and fear no breaking

    Their like, understand the darkness that covers them with fine dust

  12. قومٌ إذا صَدْعٌ تفا

    قَمَ مرةً كانوا رِئابهْ

    And single out Abu Al Abbas in open-handedness truly with no mirage

    A King whose hands people seek to kiss when he goes out

  13. وإذا شتاءٌ أخلفتْ

    أنواؤه خَلفوا سَحابهْ

    Ask his deputies about his overflowing munificence that informs you sincerely

    A rain, if you seek it, you would find gold in its descending

  14. جُعلتْ بيوتُهم مع الـ

    ـبيتِ العتيقِ لنا مَثابهْ

    The barefooted sit while it gushes towards them

    Its breaths have made them abandon efforts

  15. ننتابُ فيها نائلاً

    جَزْلاً متى شئنا انتيابهْ

    But delegations of gratitude do not cease to fill its courtyard

    And when a grateful person sought from it the reward of benevolence

  16. ويلوذُ لائذُنا بها

    إن حبلُنا اضطربَ اضطرابهْ

    It gave what if marked would be taken by the grasping hands

    So it made praise that adorns the roses permissible wealth

  17. لم يَدْعهُمْ مُستنجدٌ

    إلا ودعوتُه المُجابهْ

    Many a banner of glory missed it while the commoners hit it

    In speech he presents what rivals spill out evenly

  18. كم عائذٍ من دهرِهِ

    بهمُ إذا ما الدهرُ رابَهْ

    An opinion, if the confused elongate differences in accounting

    The plain truth does not veil itself from him nor does it fear ambiguity

  19. خُذ في النوائب منهمُ

    حَبْلاً ولا تَخَفِ انقضابَهْ

    The fulfiller of destiny, if determined, no doubt can divert it

    No faultfinder blames it if matters collide with it

  20. أمثالَهُمْ فاعْممْ بمد

    حكَ عَمَّهُمْ حُسْنُ الصحابهْ

    With its plot, it waters the thirsty and harvests ripe fruits

    And its sharpness hunts down the causes of death when you see its punishment

  21. واخصُصْ أبا العباس بحـ

    ـرَ الجودِ حقاً لا سرابهْ

    It surpassed the perfect men as the lofty mountain surpassed its foothills

    I swear by the King Whom no king can overpower

  22. ملِكٌ يظلُّ إذا غدا

    تتعاورُ الأيدي رِكابهْ

    That I have turned aside praise to him without needing to invent any

    And I swear by my solemn oath without wishing to breach it

  23. سائلْ بسؤدَدِهِ المعا

    شرَ بل ندَاهُ وانسكابهْ

    Oh remote you are from the lies and doubts attributed to you

    You have corrupted the one who walked straight

  24. يُخبرْك عنهُ باليقي

    ن ويجعل الجدوى جوابهْ

    And forgot your corruption, O dust

    If your wedding night were afflicted

  25. غيثٌ إذا اسْتَمطرتَهُ

    ألفيتَ من ذَهبٍ ذِهابهْ

    It would not have invited you, then, to its bed

    While he has not avoided the sanctuary of religion, evading it

  26. قعدَ العُفاةُ وسيبُهُ

    يَختبُّ نحوهُمُ اختبابهْ

    Has anyone feared violation or apprehension like his fear?

    Your insults do not harm him

  27. أغنتهُمُ نفحاتُهُ

    حتى لقد هجروا جَنابهْ

    Will the gossip of insects or nibbling of flies hurt him tomorrow?

    You have initiated insulting him, thus increasing speech without pleasantness

  28. لكنْ وفودُ الشكرِ لا

    تنفكُّ قد شحنتْ رحابهْ

    You have considered it okay in a line of poetry while far from accurateness

    How can one be outstretched when they have been raised so high?

  29. ولَمَا ابتغى من شاكرٍ

    شُكرَ النَّوالِ ولا استثابهْ

    However it is an elegant line just mentioning its meaning brings joy

    You are blind to the ways of guidance and remain riding every confusion

  30. أعطى الذي لَوْ سِيمَ حا

    تمُ أْخذَهُ يوماً لهابَهْ

    How many times stretched between sin and solitude that you doubt!

    Slandering it cheekily with an insolence in you that has solidity

  31. فأباحَهُ حَمْدَ الورى

    مالٌ أباحهُمُ انتهابهْ

    That's how the likes of you slander venerable matters unveiled and blameworthy

    I have said when I was told of what you did resembling the youth

  32. كم رايةٍ للمجد فا

    زَ بِهَا وأخطأها عَرابهْ

    Why not prevent him from insulting and say to him lies?

    A blind and blinding man whose calculations hands cannot control

  33. ويُجيلُ في الخَطْب الذي

    تُضحي شواكِلُهُ تَشَابهْ

    Afflicted by a problem with no sympathy

    A dog howled trying to kill

  34. رأياً إذا الخطأ المُخي

    لُ أطالَتِ الفِرَقُ اعتقابهْ

    As dogs tend to howl at ruins

    So its howling led it while it howled at the ruins of the forest

  35. لم يحتجبْ عنه الصوا

    بُ وأين عنهُ تَرى احتجابهْ

    It threw its puppies at me

    And the blood on its mouth dyed its lips

  36. لا رَأْيَ في مَجهولَةٍ

    يجتابُ ظُلمتَها اجتيابَهْ

    So think of a Syrian dog that the lion entered its lair with his claws and canine teeth

    How dare you insult the people of rewards or the slaves of people of rewards

  37. تجلو به سدفَ العما

    ية عنك أو ترضى انجيابهْ

    Safe from all things worthy of questioning but not seeking answers

    Many brothers their misdeeds have faded, those crowlike traits

  38. أجلى البصيرة لا تَقَحـ

    ـحُمَه تخاف ولا ارتيابهْ

    Due to their forbearance on the Day of Judgment when his book is brought

    Since no sin of his will be seen but through it while finding no credit

  39. ماضي القضاءِ إذا ارتأى

    لم يستطع شَكٌّ جِذابهْ

    Every member of him appears guilty except his blessing

    And if able, he would repel it

  40. ما عاب ذو طعم ريا

    ضَتَهُ الأمورَ ولا اقتضابهْ

    To be a door for misdeeds, may God hasten its removal

    O you whose flaws at insolences hope for forgiveness one day

  41. وبكَيده يَروي القنا

    عَلَقاً ويختضبُ اختضابهْ

    Get away from wretchedness and snake creeping through him

    How can the scabby bald meet he who hopes for welcoming?

  42. وتصيدُ لَحمَتها عُقا

    بُ الموتِ يومَ تَرى عقابهْ

    What do you resent towards a man who takes shelter in a burrow?

    He has sheep that he releases not caring for the wolves

  43. فَضَلَ الرجالَ ذوي الكما

    لِ كما اعتلى جبلٌ ظِرابَهْ

    No, but women waddling with protruding pregnant bellies

    They are the destination for those who spend their night lost not knowing where they will end up

  44. أقسمتُ بالمَلِكِ الذي

    لم يستطِعْ مَلِكٌ غِلابهْ

    You took liberties with the sanctities of a people whose trust is stored within their houses

    No person of prestige wore the turbans of shame

  45. لقد استدَرَّ له المدي

    حُ وما تكلَّفتُ احتلابهْ

    Much less did he watch for blame in permitting them

    And you lecture me that you insulted them?

  46. ولقد حلفتُ بما حلف

    تُ به وما أبغي خِلابهْ

    O lower than plebeians

    Hide your honor—do not diminish it—and deposit it at denigrations

  47. يا بُعدَهُ مما افْتري

    تَ من الفواحش واغترابَهْ

    Your honor does not equal the honor of a passerby so do not diminish it

    I answered him when he said this in words that explain his speech

  48. خنَّثْتَ أَرْجَلَ مَنْ مَشى

    ونسيتَ خُنْثَكَ يا تُرابهْ

    Had you insulted other than the people of rewards, I would not have allowed them insult

    And I would not have accepted the babble of the villain or his hostility

  49. لو أنَّ عِرسَك بايتت

    هُ لَما دعَتْهُ إذاً لُبابهْ

    But I protect them as long as my sea rages in its storms

    And I see insulting my honor among them or wasting it as trivial

  50. مَعَ أنهُ لم يَجْتنبْ

    رَجلٌ حِمَى الدين اجتنابهْ

    Since troubles in protecting them are pleasurable woes

    If only their roads betrayed me one day at rugged Al-Shabah

  51. وهَل اتَّقى كتِقائه

    أحدٌ أو ارتقبَ ارتقابهْ

    My heart is their sanctuary so none can have its slopes but them

    Why not when their memory is spirit if worries depart?

  52. ما ضَرَّهُ أهَجَوْتَهُ

    يا وغدُ أم طَنّتْ ذُبابهْ

    And if a wish distances, through them we hope its nearing?

    I have alienated from my poetry the anger that boils

  53. أنشأتَ تهجوهُ فأكْ

    ثرتَ الكلام بلا إطابهْ

    To please them, avoiding its disturbing troubles

    I have slipped away from them to you and away from their territory of power

  54. وأحلتَ في بيت وما

    زِلتَ البعيد من الإصابهْ

    So your rhymes aspired and you threw matters of importance

    Climb down, one who threw at towering heights

  55. أنَّى يكون مُمدَّداً

    رَجلٌ وقد رفعوا كِعابهْ

    Surely one who threw at elevations, it would hit him

    It was not your destiny to surpass praising them, no, confusion prevents you

  56. لكنه بيتٌ عَرا

    كَ لذكر معناه صَبابهْ

    Especially with a mouth whose seminal fluid drink does not dry up from its wine

    Passing the shameless with it when the gift of old age inspires her

  57. فعميتَ عن سنَن الطري

    قِ وظِلْتَ تركبُ كل لابهْ

    The most filthy thing if the rabble of its insolence were youthful

    Are you not ashamed of what might defile your saliva?

  58. كم صرعةٍ بين العبي

    دِ وخَلْوةٍ لك مُسْترابهْ

    While including that is not more despicable, rather more pleasant

    Why were you not transformed when you mentioned them seriously or jokingly?

  59. أصبحتَ تَنْحَلُها الكرا

    مَ بوجنةٍ فيها صَلابهْ

    But transforming the transformed is impossible, especially for you

    Do you think were you transformed you would achieve your ugliness or bleakness?

  60. وكذاكَ مثلك ينحلُ السا

    داتِ عَرَّتَهُ وعَابهْ

    One is not transformed who has not covered what he fears being unveiled

    Absolutely not! And between elegance and your face intimacy is in no way possible

  61. قد قلتُ إذ خُبِّرتُ عن

    ك بما أشبتَ من الأُشابهْ

    Their memory is affliction to one like you among the wicked

    No, but to one who touched your ignorance without washing his clothes

  62. هلّا نهاهُ عن الكرا

    م وقِيله فيهم كِذابَهْ

    No, but to one entered the shade of your darkness without stripping his robes

    You have not insulted them except so that you may insult so as to be mentioned among the fools

  63. عَوَرٌ وإعوارٌ به

    لا تَضْبِطُ الأيدي حِسابَهْ

    You have sought fame when you saw your ignorance in their absence

    A (false) glory that you mend and a wound you constantly seek to loot

  64. منه بلاءٌ باستهِ

    ليست عليه بالمُثابَهْ

    So when you gain a quick announcement you accept as reward

    You do not accompany Abdullah but accompany Zayd and his activity

  65. كلبٌ عوى مُستقتِلاً

    والحَيْنُ يَستعوي كلابهْ

    And you stood up punishing the oaf—no, his beating—

    And the standing up of a person to do may just be his fall

  66. فَهَدى إليه عُواؤُه

    لمّا عوى رِئبالَ غابهْ

    While Abdullah is proceeding between your wonder and insects

    With vices that heal simpletons when they are agitated from the clouds

  67. ألقى كلاكِلَهُ عليـ

    ـِ وعلَّ من دمه حِرابهْ

    With insolent intrusion that has torn your shroud after it tore the veil

    O lost ransom that you seek to continuously appease

  68. فاظنُن بكلبٍ شامَ فيـ

    ـه الليثُ مِخْلَبَهُ ونابهْ

    May your hands perish paying what no one pays as ransom

    An old man if a young one scorns will sacrifice his youth

  69. أنَّى يَسُبُّ بني ثوا

    بة أو عبيدَ بني ثوابهْ

    My eagerness upon you is a corrupt transgressor

    With a tongue that has thinness

  70. من كل شيءٍ يُسْتَتَا

    بُ وما استُهُ بالمُستَتابهْ

    What is the matter an heir immerses in you of literature and writing?

    Why not thank the people of rewards? What brought its rider's feet to a halt?

  71. كم إخوةٍ وارت له

    سوءاتِهِم تلك الغُرابهْ

    That you met those who have known you and the slave who busies his bag

    While they have not seen censure of him one day or backbiting

  72. لإخالهُ يوم القيا

    مة باستِهِ يُؤتى كتابهْ

    Out of generosity, their reward from bounty was to delegate donations

    To insult them of enmity scattering his flies constantly upon them

  73. إذ لا يُرى ذنبٌ له

    إلا بها وَلِيَ اكتسابهْ

    That's how the hostile aggresses if you understand his origin

    A man asking other than what God has made requesting of him

  74. بل كلُّ عضوٍ منه يو

    جَدُ مذنباً حاشا عُنابهْ

    Ask about that his disgrace violating the protected innocents and seizing by force

    Crowding the shameless forcibly then corrupting her veil

  75. ولو استطاع لصاغه

    دُبُراً ولالْتمسَ انقلابهْ

    Oh his wicked opening! And his nostrils took in its expanse!

    A beast whose hearing they deafened so his warning of blame silenced him

  76. ليكون باباً للفيا

    شل عَجَّل اللَّه اجتبابهْ

    Then he transgressed denying it while his companions drip it

    The people bestowed good upon you but you did not reward it well

  77. يا من لحاهُ على الفوا

    حش يرتجي يوماً متابهْ

    They covered your scandal, not the suspicion, seeing the disgrace itself

    You denied them a denial that made the ugliness of their tan darker

  78. خلِّ الشقِيَّ وَحَيَّةً

    تنسابُ فيه وانسيابهْ

    And you entered the morning falsely accusing the innocent ones while not wiping the dust

    Pelting them with slander carelessly, obstructing them while calculating

  79. أنَّى يُلاقي القارظَ الـ

    ـعَنَزيَّ من يرجو إيابهْ

    You will come to know in the morning who you pelted

    And the fog will dissipate from you

  80. ماذا نَقِمْتَ على امرىءٍ

    يُؤوي إلى جُحرٍ حُبابهْ

    Your hands will blame what they have earned when you meet your punishment tomorrow

    And you will confess you were ignorant

  81. وله نعاجٌ لا يزا

    ل مُخلِّيا فيها ذئابهْ

    Not coming to matters correctly

    He who lights the useless woods at night, blames it at dawn

  82. لا بل نساءٌ يزدَبِبْ

    نَ أيور ناكتِهِ ازدبابَهْ

    Many like yourself prolongs his sins then chooses

    And I have inserted in the section of censure lewd seminal fluid

  83. هنَّ المآب لكل من

    أمسى ولم يَعرفْ مآبهْ

    Until he became after cheerfulness dressed in gloom

    Fearing above him my torment and pouring

  84. ناهِيكَ من ثقةٍ سها

    مُ القوم مُودَعَةٌ جِعابَهْ

    But it's me who poked censure by striking with its spark a flame

    It's me who if the ground removed will light his oil and quench his thirst

  85. لم يَعْتصِبْ ذو حرمةٍ

    بعصائب العار اعتصابهْ

    And if the procession of poets rebelled and turned away from me in torment

    As for when you seek its opening, I will open upon you its door

  86. كلّا ولا احتقب المآ

    ثمَ في إباحتها احتِقابهْ

    And I will carry you off ardent poet whom the inflammation of poetry burnt

    If he raised the iron to strike fierce, its flashing melted it

  87. ومُعنِّفٍ لي أنْ هَجَوْ

    تُك يا أقلَّ من الصُّؤَابهْ

    Take it! A response for the meddlesome whose responses always silenced

    The clattering women if the man had many faults in his clattering

  88. قال اطوِ عِرضك لا تُدَنْ

    نِسهُ وأوْدِعْهُ عِيابهْ

    He flees with an opinion had it shaken the boulders it would have answered!

    He finds a solution in a tumultuous sea that dazzles the eyes when it sees its shores clashing

  89. ما كفءُ عرضك عرضُ معـ

    ـرورٍ فلا تحكُكْ نِقابهْ

    And he proceeds according to what he heard the waves in it and its building

    No support remains for you after it if you collide with it

  90. فأجبتُه إذ قال ذا

    كَ بخُطبةٍ فَصَلَتْ خطابهْ

    The herd of devastation if a man abundantly erred in their devastation

    Shooting every villainous opinion as though if it shook it would split a rock

  91. لو سَبَّ غيرَ بني ثوا

    بةَ ما جَشِمتُ لهم سِبابهْ

    Drawing from a sea its essence dazzles eyes when they see its white foam

    And it is deafening if ears heard the frequent pounding of its waves and their collision

  92. وَلَمَا رضيت لمنطقي

    فَرْعَ اللئيم ولا نِصابهْ

    You will have no more opinions after it if you collide with it

    Its plot waters the thirsty and reaps the ripe

  93. لكنني أحميهُمُ

    ما حالَفَتْ بَحْري صُبابهْ

    And its sharpness hunts the causes of death when you see its punishment

    It has surpassed men of perfection as the towering mountain surpassed the elevation of its carpet

  94. وأرى يسيراً فيهمُ

    تدنيسَ عرضي أو ذَهابَهْ

    I swear by the King no king can overpower

    I have exempted praise of him while I did not burden myself seeking exemption

  95. إن المكارِه في حِما

    يتهم عِذابٌ مُستطابهْ

    I have sworn an oath I do not wish to breach

    Oh remote from the abhorred lies ascribed!

  96. واليْتُهم ما حالفتْ

    أوعالُ شابةَ هضبَ شَابَهْ

    You have crippled the one walking straight and forgot your crippling, O speck of dust!

    Had your wedding night been afflicted, it would not invite you then

  97. وإذا امرؤ عاداهُمُ

    أصفرتُ من وُدّي وِطابهْ

    While he has not avoided the sanctuary of religion shunning

    Has anyone taken precautions of violations like his precautions?

  98. ومتى امترى حلبَ الوصا

    ل ملأتُ من هجر عِلابَهْ

    Your insults do not harm him, will the insects’ gossip or flies’ bites hurt him tomorrow?

    You have initiated insulting him increasing speech without pleasantness

  99. إذ لا أبالي فيهمُ

    حسكَ العدو ولا ضِبابَهْ

    You declared it lawful in a poetic line while distant from precision

    How can one be outstretched when they have raised his elevation?

  100. من كان مكتئباً لذا

    ك فقد توخيت اكتئابهْ

    However it is a line with meaning that recalls joy when mentioned

    You are blind to the path of guidance remaining riding every confusion

  101. لا زالَ يَقْدَحُ وَرْيُهُ

    في صدره أبداً قُحابَهْ

    How many times stretched out between sins and solitude that you doubt!

    Slandering it with insolent vulgarity solid in your composition

  102. قلبي حِمىً لَهُمُ فلَمْ

    يحتلَّ غيرُهُمُ شِعابهْ

    That’s how the like of you slander lofty matters of dignity exposed and blame

    I have said when told of your resemblance to reckless wary youth

  103. لِمْ لا وذكراهُمْ له

    رَوْحٌ إذا ما الهمُّ نابهْ

    Why not forbid him from insulting and declare his lies upon them?

    A blind menace whose calculations hands cannot contain

  104. ومتى تَباعدَ مطلبٌ

    فبِيُمْنهم نرجو اقترابهْ

    Afflicted by plagues without condolences

    A dog has howled seeking blood

  105. وتحرِّياً لرضاهُمُ اسْ

    تنفرت من شِعري غِضابهْ

    As dogs tend to howl arid ruins

    Thus its howl sent arid ruins of the forest

  106. وَسَلَلْتُ دُونَهُمُ علي

    ك ودون حوزتهم عِضابهْ

    It releases its young upon me

    Staining its mouth my blood colored its dripping

  107. سامَتْ قوافيك السما

    ء ورُمتَ أمراً ذا مَهابَهْ

    Imagine if a Syrian dog the lion entered its lair, clawing and biting

    How dare you insult the people of glory or servants of people of glory?

  108. فاربَعْ عليك فمن رمى

    صُعُداً بجَنْدلِهِ أصابهْ

    Safe from all things questionable but not pursuing inquiry

    Many brethren their evil deeds have vanished, those crow-like signs

  109. ما كان قدرُك أن تفو

    ه بمدحهم بَلْهَ المَعابهْ

    Due to their restraint, the Day their book is brought for Judgment

    Since no sin manifests but through it, while earning no merit

  110. لا سيّما بفمٍ يَظَلـ

    ـلُ مَنِيُّ ناكتِهِ شرابهْ

    Every member appears at fault, only its innocence inculpated

    If able, it would repulse

  111. تَمْري الأيورَ به إذا

    أهدى حشاكَ لها خِضابهْ

    To be a door for immorality, may God hasten its conclusion

    O you whose blemish insolently hopes for forgiveness someday

  112. أَقْذِرْ وأخبِثْ بالمني

    يِ إذا عبيطُ السَّلح شابهْ

    Away from wretch! A serpent slithers creeping within!

    How can the scabbed bald meet he who hopes for welcoming?

  113. هَتْماً لفيك أما تَخَيْـ

    ـيَرَ ما يشوبُ بهِ لُعابهْ

    What do you resent in a man sheltered in a burrow?

    Owning sheep not minding the wolves wandering them

  114. وإخالُ ذلك لم يزد

    في خُبثه لكن أطابهْ

    No, but women waddling, bulging bellies burdened

    They are the fate of ones spending their night not knowing their fate

  115. هَلّا مُسِخْتَ وقد ذكر

    تَهمُ بجِدٍّ أو دُعابهْ

    You have taken liberties among sanctities of a people trusting custody in their homes

    None esteemed has donned disgrace's turban

  116. لكنَّ المَسْخَ المسخِ مُمْ

    تنعٌ ولا سيما الزَّبابهْ

    Much less apprehensively disallowed permitting them

    Yet you fault me for insulting them?

  117. أتظن أنك لو مُسخ

    تَ بلغتَ قُبحك أو قُرابهْ

    O lower than riffraff!

    Hide your honor—do not slight it—embed it in degradations!

  118. ما يُمسخُ المسخُ الذي

    لم يُكسَ ما يخشى استلابهْ

    Your honor's not the equal of a passerby's, do not disparage yourself!

    I answered him when he declared this in words detailing his oration:

  119. كلا وما بين الفرا

    ق وبين وجهك من قَرابهْ

    Had you insulted other than the Glories’ people, I'd not allow insulting them

    I'd not accept the villain's nonsense or hostility

  120. ذِكراهُمُ بَسْلٌ على

    من كان مثلك في الجنابهْ

    Nay I protect them until my sea rages in its tempest

    And I see insulting my honor or wasting it among them as paltry

  121. لا بل على من مسّ ثو

    بك ثم لم يغسِل ثيابهْ

    Since troubles in their sanctuary are pleasurable afflictions

    If only their roads had not betrayed me someday at formidable al-Shaba

  122. لا بل على من خاض ظل

    لَك ثم لم يَسلخ إهابهْ

    My heart's inviolate for them so none can HAVE ITS SLOPES BUT THEM

    WHY NOT WHEN THEIR MEMORY IS SPIRIT IF CARES DISPERSE?

  123. لم تهجُهُم إلا لكي

    تهجي فتُذكَرَ في عِصابهْ

    And if a desire distances, through them we hope its nearing?

    I have alienated my poetry's anger boiling

  124. طَلَبَ النَّباهةِ إذ رأَيْ

    تكَ من خُمولك في غيابَهْ

    To gratify them, avoiding its disturbing troubles

    I have slipped from them to you and from their sphere of reign—

  125. جاهٌ تُرمِّمُهُ ودُبْ

    رٌ تبتغي أبداً خَرابهْ

    So your rhymes have soared and affairs of import you have tossed!

    Climb down! One who flung at towering heights—

  126. فإذا ظَفِرتَ بحادرٍ

    ذي كُدْنَةٍ تَرْضَى وِثابهْ

    Surely one who flung at peaks, it would strike him!

    It was not your fate to excel praising them—nay, confusion thwarts you—

  127. لم تُلفِ عبدَ اللَّهِ بل

    ألفيتَ زيداً وانتصابهْ

    Especially with a mouth whose seminal fluid does not dry from its wine's pour

    Chasing the shameless therewith when the gift of old age compels her—

  128. ولَمَا انتصبتَ مُعاملاً

    ضَرْبَ المُواثِبِ بل ضِرابهْ

    Most sordid thing! If the dross of its insolence were youthful vigor!

    Are you not ashamed of what might defile your spittle?

  129. ولربما كان انتصا

    بُ المرءِ للفعل انكبابهْ

    While including that is no more despicable—nay, more palatable!

    Why were you not transformed having mentioned them in earnest or play?

  130. وعلاكَ عبدُ اللَّه ينـ

    ـظِمُ بين عَجْبِك والذؤابهْ

    But transforming the transformed is impossible—most of all for you!

    Think you if transformed you'd have gained your ugliness or drear?

  131. بعُجَارِمٍ يشفي الفقا

    حَ إذا شَغَبْنَ من السَّغابهْ

    One's not transformed who has not masked what violation lays bare!

    Absolutely not! Between elegance and the aspect of your face no closeness lies!

  132. ذي فَيْشَةٍ شكَّتْ فؤا

    دَك بعدما هتكت حِجابهْ

    Remembering them is torment to one such as you amid perversity

    Nay to one who touched your plague yet did not wash his cloak

  133. يا ضُلَّ تَفْدِيةٍ هنا

    لك تستديمُ بها هِبابهْ

    Nay to one who waded into your darkness yet did not strip his robe

    Naught insults them but that you may slight and be named amid fools—

  134. تَبَّتْ يداك مُفَدِّياً

    ما تَبَّ من أحدٍ تَبابهْ

    Seeking glory when beheld your ignorance in their absence

    A glory you amend and a scar you constantly demand to ruin

  135. شيخٌ إذا حَدَثٌ أها

    نَ مَشيبَهُ فدَّى شبابهْ

    Thus if you gain a swift herald you find pleasing as reward

    Not accompanying Abdullah but accompanying Zayd in his toil—

  136. لَهْفي عليك مُخَنَّثاً

    وعلى لسانك ذي الذَّرابهْ

    Standing erect to punish the lout—no! flog him!

    A person's standing to enact can just conclude in their fall

  137. ماذا يخوضُ الأيرُ في

    ك من الكتابةِ والخطَابهْ

    While Abdullah proceeds amid your wonders and insects

    With vices healing simpletons when agitated by the firmament's tempests

  138. هلّا شكرتَ بني ثوا

    بَةَ ما حدا حادٍ رِكابهْ

    With insolent intrusion rending your shroud after rending the veil—

    O lost ransom perpetually appeased through you!

  139. أن صادفوا من قد عَلِمْ

    تَ وعَبْدَهُ يحشو جِرابهْ

    May your hands that pay what none pay as ransom perish!

    An elder if a juvenile disdains will offer his vigor

  140. إذ لم يَرَوْا تقريعه

    يوماً بذاك ولا اغتيابهْ

    I yearn for your fall, O transgressive defiler

    With a tongue of frailty—

  141. كرماً فكان جزاؤهم

    منهُ أن انتدبَ انتدابهْ

    Why does an heir wade in you amid literature and script?

    Why not thank Rewards' people? What halted the rider at their feet?

  142. يهجوهُمُ بَغْياً ويُلـ

    ـصِقُ دائماً بِهِمُ شِغابَهْ

    As you have met those recognizing you and the slave stuffing his purse—

  143. وكذلك البغَّاءُ با

    غٍ إن تَفَهَّمْتَ انتسابهْ

  144. رجلٌ يطالبُ غير ما

    جعلَ الإلهُ له طِلابهْ

  145. سائلْ بذلك بَخْسَهُ

    حقَّ الغواني واغتصابهْ

  146. زَحَمَ الأيورَ على الفرو

    جِ مَعاً فسدَّ بها نِقابهْ

  147. فَاهُ الخبيثَ ومَنخِرَيْ

    هِ وفقحةً منهُ رُحابهْ

  148. وحشا مسامعَهُ بها

    فحمى مُعاتِبَه عِتابهْ

  149. ثم اغتدى مُتَبرِّئاً

    من ذاك يَنْحَلُهُ صِحابهْ

  150. أسدى إليك القومُ معـ

    ـروفاً فلم تحسن ثوابهْ

  151. ستروا عليك وقد رأوْا

    نَفْسَ الفضيحة لا الإرابهْ

  152. فَجَحَدْتَهُمْ جحداً جعل

    تَ قبيحَ قَرْفِكَهُمْ قِطابهْ

  153. وغدوتَ بَهَّاتَ الجَبيـ

    ـنِ وأنت لم تمسحْ ترابهْ

  154. ترميهِمُ بالإفك مُطْـ

    ـطَرِحاً سَداهُمْ واحتسابهْ

  155. أصبِحْ تبيَّنْ مَنْ رَمَيْ

    تَ وتنجلي عنك الضبابهْ

  156. سَتَذُمُّ ما اكتسبتْ يدا

    ك إذا لقيت غداً عقابهْ

  157. وتُقرُّ أنك جاهلٌ

    لم تأتِ من أمرٍ صَوابهْ

  158. من باتَ يحتطِبُ الأفا

    عِيَ لَيلَهُ ذَمَّ احتطابهْ

  159. ولرُبَّ مثلك قد أطَلْ

    تُ على خطيئته انتحابهْ

  160. وجعلتُ في نَظْمَ الهجا

    ءِ فِياشَ ناكتهِ سِخَابهْ

  161. حتى غدا بعد المِرا

    ح عليه سِربالُ الكآبهْ

  162. مُترقِّباً مِنْ فوقهِ

    يخشى عَذابي وانصبابهْ

  163. وأنا الذي قدحَ الهجا

    ءُ بزَنْدِهِ قِدْماً شهابهْ

  164. وأنا الذي مِنْ أرضِهِ

    يمتارُ حنظلَهُ وصَابَهْ

  165. وإذا تمرَّد ماردُ الـ

    ـشُعراء ولَّاني عذابَهْ

  166. أمَّا إذا استفتحْتَهُ

    فلأفتحنَّ عليك بابهْ

  167. ولأُصلينَّك جاحمَ الـ

    ـشِعر الذي هِجت التهابهْ

  168. قَذَعٌ إذا سَفَعَ الحدي

    دَ سعيرُ أيسرِه أَذابهْ

  169. خُذها جوابَ مُفَوّهٍ

    ما زال يُفْحِمُ من أجابهْ

  170. جَمُّ الصِّياب إذا امرؤٌ

    كثرت خواطئهُ صِيابهْ

  171. يَفْري الفريَّ بِمقْولٍ

    لو هزَّهُ للصخر جابهْ

  172. يمتاحُ من بحرٍ يهو

    لُ العين حين ترى حِدابهْ

  173. ويُصِمُّ من سمع الْتِطَا

    م الموج فيه واصطخابهْ

  174. لا مادَ رأياً بعدها

    لك إن صَدَمْتَ بها عُبَابهْ
