سُمتَني جفوةً فأظهرتُ سَلوَهْ

كلُّ ذي جَفْوه حقيقٌ بَسلوَهْ

You turned away coldly, so I feigned indifference,

All cold-shouldered people deserve indifference.

قد سلونا إن كنت أعرضتَ عمداً

واعتقدنا الإعراضَ إن كانَ هفوه

We excuse you if you turned away deliberately,

And believe the turning away was unintentional.

لا تجشَّم لي التخلُّق إن كنْ

تَ مَلولاً إنَّ التجَشُّم شِقْوه

Do not force yourself to act friendly if

You are weary, for forcing oneself leads to misery.
