وصاحب لم أكُ من جنسِهِ

ما زلتُ أوفيه على بَخسِهِ

A friend I was unlike

Yet faithful despite his stinginess

ولَّى وما أوليتُهُ سيئاً

أتبعه اللَه قفا أمسِه

He turned away yet I did him no wrong

May God make him stumble backwards

بل أحسنَ اللَه مجازاتَه

على الذي استثمر من غَرسه

Rather may God reward him well

For what he has sown and reaped

أخلقت نفسي بمصافاته

فصانني بالصَرم عن نفسه

I trained myself to put up with him

So he protected me strictly from himself
