1. خصيمُ الليالي والغواني مُظلَّمُ

    وعهد الليالي والغواني مُذمَّمُ

    A friend of nights and singing girls darkened,

    And promise of nights and singing girls decayed,

  2. فظلم الليالي أنهن أشبْنني

    لعشرين يحدوهن حوْل مُجرّمُ

    So nights did me wrong for they made me old,

    For twenty circling around a planet,

  3. وظُلم الغواني أنهن صرمنني

    لظلم الليالي إنني لمُظلَّمُ

    And singing girls did me wrong for they avoided me,

    For the wrong of nights, I was wronged.

  4. تنكَّرن لي أن نكّر الشيبُ لمَّتي

    وفي الشيب للسودِ الذرى متحرّمُ

    They denied knowing me, for white hair denied knowing my happiness,

    Yet in white hair there is for blacks no sacredness.

  5. فإن أغد محزوم السهام فربما

    غدا بيَ مُلقى غرة الصيد مُطعَمُ

    So if I come tomorrow ready with arrows,

    Then an exciting stroke for hunting may feed me.

  6. ورب مَهاة صدتها بين نظرتي

    ونظرتها أيامَ رأسيَ أسحمُ

    And perhaps an wild animal I warded off with my sight,

    When sight of it and mine, more dashing.

  7. أُعارض مرمى الوحش غير مخاتلٍ

    فأستدرج الأقناص من حيث تعلمُ

    I challenge prey of beasts not cheating,

    So I attract hunters from where they know.

  8. رأيتُ سوادَ الرأْسِ واللهو تحته

    كليْلٍ وحُلمٍ باتَ رائيه ينعمُ

    I saw the blackness of hair and playing under it

    Like a night whose dreamer is having pleasure.

  9. فلما اضمحلّ الليلُ زال نعيمُه

    فلم يَبْقَ إلا عهدُه المتوهَّمُ

    So when the night faded its bliss is gone

    And none remains except its delusional promise.

  10. وصفراءَ بكرٍ لا قذاها مُغيّبٌ

    ولا سرُّ من حَلّتْ حشاهُ مُكتّمُ

    And an ugly spinster whose sides none culled

    And whose secrets under her veil unspoken.

  11. ينمُّ على الأمرين فرطُ صفائها

    وسوْرتِها حتى يبوحَ المُجمجمُ

    She half sleeps due to purity of her sides

    And whiteness of her mouth until it flows.

  12. هي الورسُ في بيضِ الكؤوس وإن بدَتْ

    لعينيك في بيضِ الوجوه فعنْدمُ

    She is blossoms in cups of goblets, though to your eyes

    In white faces she is closer to being tawny.

  13. يظلُّ لها المزكومُ حين يسوفُها

    سحابةَ يومٍ وهْو بالمسك يُفعَمُ

    The pressed perfume stays fragrant next to her

    Even if wind makes it drift or time makes it fade.

  14. لها لذَّتا طعم ورسٍّ كأنه

    دبيب نمالٍ في نقاً بات يُرهَمُ

    Gardens and meadows, she shakes their fruits

    As a bough and branches fruitfully bead.

  15. مذاقٌ ومسرىً في العروق كلاهما

    ألذُّ من البرء الجديد وأنعمُ

    Creatures differ in forms of beauty

    Differing as creations of a skilful and unskilful maker.

  16. كأنهما لثمُ الحبيب وضمُّهُ

    وقد باتَ منه تحت خدّك مِعصمُ

    Of dark blond, and bright blond, and shiny white,

    Jet black, golden, slender, and chubby.

  17. إذا نزلتْ بالهم في دارِ أهلهِ

    غدا الهمُّ وهو المرهَقُ المهضّمُ

    When eyes review them, a well-dressed poem for them

    Perhaps with rhymed prose and lofty diction.

  18. أقامتْ ببيتِ النارِ تسعين حجةً

    وعشراً يُصلَّى حولها ويُزمزَمُ

    Ships of longing, some embellished sails

    Others untouched but all spotless hulls.

  19. سقتْني بها بيضاءُ فُوها وكأسُها

    شبيها مذاقٍ عند من يتطعَّمُ

    With varied grades of beauty all consent

    To slay whom gazes at them without guilt.

  20. سقيمة طرْفِ العينِ سُقماً بمثله

    يصابُ صحيحات القلوبِ فتسقَمُ

    Just as arrows slay together though the fletcher

    Is of different woods, feathers and knocks.

  21. من الهيفِ لو شاءت لقامت بكأسها

    وخاتمُها في خصرها متختَّمُ

    When alone with one, if I wished she gratified me

    With a goblet whose vines are sprawling.

  22. كهمّ الخليِّ اسودَّ فرعٌ ومَكْحلٌ

    لها خِلقةً وابيضَّ ثغرٌ ومَلْغمُ

    And if I wished she entertained me singing rhapsodies

    Eloquent or of birds' gibberish.

  23. وأشرقَ منها صحنُ خدٍّ مضرَّجٍ

    يظلُّ بما فيه من الماء يُضرمُ

    In a garden wherein eyes rain light

    Trickling with tears, rather mouths shining smiles.

  24. مُفدّىً يسمَّى باسمِ فيها مقبَّلاً

    إذا قيل للخدّ الملعَّنِ مَلْطَمُ

    The sun's radiance giggles back,

    Its tears out of real ardour gathered.

  25. وأنَّى يُسمَّى ملْطماً وهو ملثمٌ

    فدى حُسْنَه من ذاك خَدٌّ مُلَطَّمُ

    As someone feeling joyous after sadness

    In mixed camp which they pitched then departed.

  26. على أنه مغرىً به العضُّ مُولعٌ

    وليس له ذنبٌ سوى الحُسنِ يُنقَمُ

    Two gazelles of meadow and plain entertain me,

    The roes of sand-dunes and of stony valley.

  27. يُعضُّ وما أسدى إلى العين سيِّئاً

    وليس بمظلومٍ وإن كان يُظْلمُ

    If extending their necks, both equal

    I have a pitcher with bubbling wine.

  28. يظلّ إذا أبدى لنا منه صفحةً

    تلذّ بها أبصارنا وتنعَّمُ

    Three wild cows whose bellow differ

    For the amusement, all luxuriate.

  29. نُولّيه أطرافَ الثنايا وإنّه

    ليَدْمَى من الألحاظِ بل حين يُوهمُ

    A gazelle, a pitcher, and a wild doe

    Plucking its strings making music.

  30. بذاك قضى قاضي الهوى وهْو ظالمٌ

    على الخَدِّ للعين التي هي أظلمُ

    One mooing, one bleating the third bellowing or grunting

    If the sounds differ, delight doubles and sorrow vanishes.

  31. وما زال في القاضي الغشومِ تحاملٌ

    على الخَصمِ للخصمِ الذي هو أغشمُ

    I once coerced that to humiliation

    Or bored of coercion though it is easily done.

  32. تفكَّهُ منها العينُ عند اجتلائها

    بفاكهة ليست يدَ الدهر تُوخَمُ

    For the sword has a bed in its scabbard

    And a place where cutting is honest and resolved.

  33. عناقيدُ فردوسٍ وتفاحُ جنّةٍ

    تتوقُ إليها كُلّ نفسٍ وتقرَمُ

    An immigrant white, its brightness

    Outshines blackness as if the face dotted.

  34. يناغيهما رمانُ صدرٍ يعيذه

    من العين ياقوتٌ ودرٌّ منظَّمُ

    I battle so that it almost reveals itself without the veil

    As if with its love I'm rubbing cheeks together.

  35. وبين ثمار الرأسِ والعين عبْهرٌ

    يضاهيه منها أقحوانٌ مُدَيَّمُ

    I set for it continuous flames that were never

    Quenched though stones crack from the heat.

  36. رياضٌ وجناتٌ يهزُّ ثمارها

    ونُوَّارَها غُصنٌ ودِعصٌ مركَّمُ

    In it, generations of tents collapse continuously

    While the recent neighs at the face slapping it.

  37. تفاوتَ منها الخلقُ في حسن صورةٍ

    تفاوتَ إبداعٍ فرابٍ وأهْضمُ

    Those flames innocuous yet probed mortally

    As poison bitten though faces show no blemish.

  38. وخَدْلٌ وممشوقٌ وأبيض ناصعٌ

    وأسودُ غِربيبٌ وأقنى وأخثمُ

    When it descends onto the soul's abode

    Sorrows perish while it comfortably settles.

  39. إذا استعرضتْها العينُ دقَّ موشَّحٌ

    لها ورَبا ردفٌ وجَلَّ مُخدّمُ

    It stayed for ninety pilgrimages in the house of fire

    With ten circling and revering as in Hijaz.

  40. مراكبُ للذَّات منها مضمَّرٌ

    وما مسَّه ضُمرٌ ومنها مُطهَّمُ

    It quenched me with its hand and gave me its cup

    Whose taste is strange for who tastes.

  41. لها فِرقٌ شتّى من الحُسنِ أجْمعتْ

    على أن يُلقَّى البرْح منها المُتيَّمُ

    Afflicted in sight, such affliction

    Overcomes unafflicted souls to make them diseased.

  42. أما عجبٌ إجماعُ مختلفاتِها

    على قتلِ من لاقَتْهُ لا تتأثَّمُ

    If it wished with its cup it would establish glory

    With its ring around its waist bundled.

  43. كذا السهمُ يُصمي وهو شتّى نجارُهُ

    حديدٌ وريشٌ وابنُ غِيل مُقوَّمُ

    The mole of a dark cheek blackened so a branch whitened

    In qualities and whiten a mouth and make it squeeze.

  44. خلوتُ بها فرداً إذا شئتُ علَّني

    بكأسٍ لها ريَّا بنانٌ مُنعَّمُ

    And light up from it the cheek's plate reddened

    Keeping the wetness as a mark remains.

  45. وإنْ شئتُ ألهاني غناءان خِلْفةً

    فصيحٌ ومما تنطق الطير أعجمُ

    Ransomed and named after a name in it when called pretty

    Though blamed the redness of a slapped cheek darkens.

  46. لدى روضةٍ فيها من النَّوْرِ أعينٌ

    تُرقرق دمعاً بل ثغورٌ تبسَّمُ

    And why is it called 'pretty' when it's veiled?

    A cheek is ransomed from that by a slapped and darkened cheek.

  47. يضاحك روقَ الشمسِ منها مُضاحكٌ

    مدامِعُه من واقعِ الطلّ سُجَّمُ

    Indeed it entices one to bite it

    Having no fault except beauty that rouses hate.

  48. كمستعبِر مستبشرٍ بعد حزنهِ

    لبيْنِ خليطٍ قوّضوا ثم خيَّموا

    It gets bitten harming no eyes

    And it's not oppressed though it seems so.

  49. يغازلني فيها غزالان منهما

    ربيبُ الفيافي والربيب المتوَّمُ

    It remains the cause if its face reveals just some

    Eyes feast and have comfort in seeing it.

  50. إذا نصبا جيديهما فكلاهما

    سواءٌ وإبريقٌ لديَّ مُفدَّمُ

    We turn to it corners of glances though it

    Wets from ogles, verily when fancied so.

  51. ثلاثةُ أظبٍ نَجْرُها غيرُ واحدٍ

    لذي اللهو فيها كلها مُتنعَّمُ

    The biased judge of desire rules unjustly

    Against the cheek to the more unjust eye.

  52. غزالٌ وإبريق رذُومٌ وغادةٌ

    تُحرّكُ من أوتارها وتُنَغِّمُ

    The judge maintains prejudice against the foe

    To the foe that is darker in injustice.

  53. فظبي يُغنّيه وظبي يُعلُّهُ

    وظبي يرودُ التلعَ أو يتجرثَمُ

    From it the eye jokes when it uncovers

    Fruits no hands of time can bruise.

  54. لعيْني مُراعي شخصِه فيه مأنسٌ

    وملْهىً وللمستطعمِ الصيدِ مَطعمُ

    Grapes of heavens and apples of gardens

    Every soul aspires to while bodies hasten demise.

  55. فقد عكفتْ منها عليهِ بما اشتهى

    هنالك أظْآر من العيشِ رُوَّمُ

    Adorning them are a chest's pomegranates protecting

    Against eyes rubies and matched pearls.

  56. وركبِ قنيصٍ قد شهدتُ جيادهم

    تُحمْحِمُ في ثيرانِ وحشٍ تَغَمْغمُ

    And amongst fruits of head and eye an aroma

    Only equalling intense refined musk.

  57. مهاً كالمها إلا جبالَ متونها

    وإلا مكانَ الوشمِ أو حيث تُلْطَمُ

    Gardens and orchards whose fruits a bough shakes

    As a leafy and fruited branch clusters.

  58. وإلا مخَطَّ الكحلِ من كلّ مقلةٍ

    وإلا قروناً تدَّرِي فتُزنَّمُ

    Some stalks enchanted me so I sheltered with them

    And a loving and musical neighbour laments.

  59. يُزنّجُ منها الناسبون وشيظةً

    وجمهورها في الناسبين مُرَوَّمُ

    It cries there while a doe plays music

    So leader of hyenas clamoured and became quiet.

  60. دُفعنا إليها وهْي زُهرٌ كأنها

    خلالَ أنيقِ النَّوْرِ نورٌ مجسَّمُ

    Debating whether it or this one

    When voices differ, delight redoubles or sorrow revisits.

  61. فما ذرَّ قرنُ الشمسِ حتى رأيتها

    تعصفرها مثعنجرات تَهزَّمُ

    Near a pasture wherein is pleasure for my sight

    And refuge where hunted game eats and nourishes.

  62. دلفنا لها بالسمهريّ فطالعٌ

    إلى مصرعٍ يرتاده ومُحَرْجمُ

    Marked by life though lifeless waterless plains

    Where ostrich struts while hyena schemes.

  63. وقد حاولتْ منجىً فقالت رماحُنا

    لِمُمْعِنِها عرّجْ فهذا المخيَّمُ

    We raided cattle and antelopes diverting from

    Gazelles to seek what is more plump.

  64. فلم يُنْجِها إحضارُها وهْو مُلْهَبٌ

    ولا ذبَّ عنها اللُّها وهو مُتْأمُ

    Times of ignorance erased its cairns and mileposts

    Concealing its landmarks in darkness made more concealing.

  65. قرونٌ لها منها حرابٌ قرائنٌ

    ولكنَّ خصمَ السمهرياتِ يُخْصَمُ

    Its gloom overwhelmed the nocturnal traveler

    So I plunged into the abyss when ways got lost.

  66. وقد طال ما ذادتِ بها غير أنه

    أتيح لها رأسٌ من الكيدِ مِصْدَمُ

    Raiding in its darkness then tearing that with might

    Like a dispeller of night by ever-pouring brightness.

  67. بحيثُ يضمَّ الثورَ والعيْرَ مرتعٌ

    يراعيهما فيه الأصكُّ المصلَّمُ

    Its elite horse neither staggering up nor down

    But expert for rider's feet and sublime pace.

  68. وشُنَّتْ لها في آل أخدرَ غارةٌ

    كما شُبَّ أُلْهوبٌ الحريقِ المضرَّمُ

    A chosen youth, his distinctness makes nil

    What distinguished best steeds from worst.

  69. تنادمَ فيها الموتُ أحمرَ قاتماً

    قريعَ المها والأخْدَريُّ المكدَّمُ

    Two singulars traversing in the darkness

    Like a vivid vision roaming through imagination.

  70. نديمان من شتّى وكأسٌ كريهةٌ

    أباها من الشُّرَّابِ إلا المجشَّمُ

    The guidance directs him though his ride depends on it

    And without guidance there is a barricade of pitch blackness.

  71. فظلّ لنا يومٌ من اللهو مُمتعٌ

    وظلّ لها يومٌ من الشرّ أيْومُ

    On a mare smooth without ruggedness

    But slippery for stepping and sliding feet.

  72. ورحنا على القُبّ العتاقِ وكلُّها

    من العلقِ الوحشيِّ أقرحُ أرثمُ

    Of those perceived densely populated southern lands

    All smooth bodied best for skilled horsemen hands.

  73. تخايلُ منه في خضاب تخاله

    طِلاءً من الحناء قاناه بقَّمُ

    A spacious unpopulated wilderness better

    For grazing aspired mounts quenching at its valley.

  74. كأنّ لها حَظَّيْن مما تصيدُه

    على أنها منه مدى الدهر صُوَّمُ

    A hawk cries over which answers jinn

    Sometimes human sometimes animal voices.

  75. وأنقذ منا العُفْرَ والرُّبْدَ ميلُنا

    إلى العينِ والحُقْب التي هي أوسمُ

    Imagining from their tones a female and a male

    When voices differ, union elates and bereavement frowns.

  76. وكان لنا في كلّ حقّ وباطلٍ

    جُنوحٌ إلى الشأن الذي هو أفخمُ

    I coercively make it accompany me

    Whether shamed or the amusement wearied me.

  77. ومعتركٍ تبدو نجومُ حديده

    وقد لفّه ليلٌ من النقع أطخمُ

    For the sword has a place of rest in its sheathe

    Another place honest cutting and deliberate stabs.

  78. شهدتُ القنا فيه تقصّفُ والظُّبا

    تُفلَّلُ والبيضَ الحصينَ تحطَّمُ

    Kissing palms, giving its back

    A connection where ruin and reverence intersect .

  79. فلم أكُ ممنْ حاصَ عن غمراتِه

    ولا غاصَ فيها حيث غاصَ المغمَّمُ

    Its palms receive people while hiding

    A source from benefaction effervescent and pure.

  80. ولكنني غامست خَوْضَةَ هَوْلِها

    جهيراً شهيراً حين ضلّ المقرقَمُ

    A knight whose will is decisive sword

    And his sword deals justice if meeting fate face to frowning face.

  81. ولم أغشها إلا عليماً بأنّها

    هي المجدُ أو مطرورةُ الحدّ صَيْلَمُ

    Touching edges of goblets he beams

    And meets wagging tongues head raised high.

  82. وليلٍ غشا ليلٌ من الدَّجْنِ فوقهُ

    فليس لنجم في غواشيه منجَمُ

    Beloved of backs of palms, their fronts kisses plant

    While their essence for people defense always braces.

  83. عفا جِلْبُهُ آيَ الهدى من سمائه

    وأعلامَهُ من أرضهِ فَهْيَ طَسْيَمُ

    Pardoning ones meeting fate with frowns

    By a hand whose backs front拢s grace outward faces.

  84. لبستُ دجاه الجونَ ثم هتكتُه

    بوجناء يَنْميها غريرٌ وشدْقَمُ

    A steed when affairs twist its spear straightens

    To make between twists of ribs and chests thy will races.

  85. عُذافرةُ تنقضّ عن كلّ زَجْرةٍ

    كما انقضّ من ذي المنجنيق الململَمُ

    The black banner overhead lofting

    Cranes of victory thereby gracing.

  86. يخوضُ عليها لجةَ الهوْلِ راكبٌ

    هو السيف إلا أنه لا يُثَلّمُ

    Protecting it death seeking lives

    That will reap remains of tyrannous and graceless.

  87. نجيبٌ من الفتيانِ فوق نجيبهِ

    من العيس في يهماء والليل أيهمُ

    His war differs facing adversaries.

    Not a war but a land thereby he erases.

  88. فريديْنِ يمضيها وتمضيه في الدجى

    كسمراء يُمضيها وتُمضيه لهذمُ

    Brother in opinion and might both

    Almost overpowering determined troops singly.

  89. يريها الهدى حدْساً وتنجو برحله

    ودون الهدى سدٌّ من الليل مُبْهَمُ

    Seen alone as if a thousand thousand

    Unified sworn decimating enemies fiercely .

  90. على ظهرِ مَرْتٍ ليس فيه مُعرَّجٌ

    ولكنْ مَخَبٌّ للركاب ومَسْعَمُ

    In discerning opinions having insights flashing

    In resolving fateissors paths crushing.

  91. من اللائي تنبو بالجنوبِ وكلها

    لأيدي المهاري أملسُ المتنِ أدرمُ

    A calm as lions composed, appearance

    As composed, verily calmer and dauntlessness dressings,

  92. خلاءٌ قواءٌ خيرُ مرعى مطيَّةٍ

    وموردها فيه النَّجاءُ الغَشَمْشَمُ

    He is the lion stalking one moment prairies

    The next lodging between cups clenching.

  93. ينوحُ به بومٌ وتعزفُ جنةٌ

    فيعوي لها سِيدٌ ويضْبَحُ سَمْسَمُ

    Circling a company or with beauties chatting

    Wisdom of God mysteriously meshing.

  94. يُخال بها من رَنِّ هذي وهذه

    إذا اختلف الصوتان عُرْسٌ ومأتَمُ

    Whether guest comes or sorrow befalls

    Neither house denied them nor blessings lessening.

  95. تعسَّفتُه إمَّا لخفضٍ أناله

    وإمَّا سآمَ الخفضِ والخفضُ يُسْأمُ

    Made ready for guests is gratifying hospitality

    Or for sorrow what makes frowning faces grimacing.

  96. وللسيف حيناً مرقدٌ في حجابه

    وحيناً مهبٌّ صادق ومُصمَّمُ

    And if different case there拢s might in likes of him

    Sorrow by him will be culled caressing.

  97. وهاجرة بيضاءَ يُعْدِي بياضُها

    سواداً كأن الوجهَ منه مُحمَّمُ

    Directed by wisdom squeezing world拢s fruits

    Mastering thereby life拢s puzzles distressing.

  98. أظلّ إذا كافحتها وكأنني

    بوهَّاجها دونَ اللثام مُلثَّمُ

    No confusion bothers if fate brings qualms

    For by him difficulties get true expressing.

  99. نصبتُ لها مني محاسرَ لم تزلْ

    تُصلَّى بنيرانِ العُلا فهي سُهَّمُ

    Leading the strayers if their loss expands

    To sanity拢s path that is most blessing.

  100. بديمومةٍ لا صلَّ في صحصحانِها

    ولا ماءَ لكنْ قورُها الدهرَ عُوَّمُ

    I wonder at an opinion sought for guiding

    While around is heaven拢s sky clouding.

  101. ترى الآلَ فيها يَلْطُمُ الآلَ مائحاً

    وبارحُها المسمومُ للوجه ألطمُ

    So Abdullah may pride in being

    In judiciousness, might and bounty rain making.

  102. بذلك قد عللتُ نفسي كُلّه

    ولكنْ بنو الأيام تُغْذَى وتُفْطَمُ

    And pride suits whom if priding others would

    Unearned thereby kingdoms to him castling.

  103. سأُعْرض عما أعرضَ الدهرُ دونَه

    وأشربُها صِرْفاً وإن لامَ لُوَّمُ

    Forbearance his to cover people somewhat

    And none spilled that mouths would be tasting

  104. أعمُّهُمُ مدحاً وأختصُّ منهمُ

    أخاهم عبيدَ اللَّه والحق يُلْزَمُ

    Might his to fell had time prided once

    The despised would hereby look aghasting

  105. فتى منهمُ في فضله متقدّمٌ

    على أنه في سِنِّهِ متقدَّمُ

    To bounty less smallest fraction given

    Would suffice what misers keep amassing

  106. يُعدُّ إذا عُدَّ الملوك مبدَّأً

    كما عُدَّ رأساً للشهور المحرَّمُ

    Attributes combined people given

    None thereby finding traits pinching

  107. له في المعالي والمكارم إخوةٌ

    وليس له فيها على ذاك تَوْأمُ

    Arts had they amongst all divided one

    From inadequacy would be lasting

  108. بنى بالمساعي سُؤدداً لا يُزيلُهُ

    صروفُ الليالي أو يزولَ يَلمْلَمُ

    Whatever you choose of him the purpose

    Is whom jewels get strung thereafter passing

  109. فتىً لا أسمّيه فتى لحداثةٍ

    ولكن لأخلاق له لا تَكَهَّمُ

    Made for this gem channels stringing

    As only strung gems stay from dispersing

  110. من الأريحياتِ التي تُمتَرى الندى

    فتَنْدَى وتلقَى غمرةً فتقحَّمُ

    Such quality none of rabble attained

    And has the pearls in ropes threading essence?

  111. إذا النعلُ شُمَّتْ في المجالسِ مرّةً

    فإن له نعلاً تُشَمُّ وتُلْثَمُ

    Still Abdullah knows his station therein

    To yearnings of beauties remains surpassing

  112. وما دُبِغتْ بالمسك بل صُوفحت به

    له قدمٌ في كلّ مجدٍ تَقدَّمُ

    In cradle he showed customs coming

    Building his merits stairs steadfast standing

  113. فتى ليس من يومٍ يمر ولا يُرَى

    لنعماه فيه أو لبؤساه ميسمُ

    To live thereby deeds his attributes vouch

    Even if shrouded body is clotting clinging

  114. يُمرُّ العطايا والمنايا لأهلها

    على هِينة منه ولا يتندّمُ

    So followed naming him by his name

    And like him customarily is honouring

  115. له فعلاتٌ من سماحٍ ونجدةٍ

    لمنْ يعتفي عُرْفاً ومن يتعرَّمُ

    Nor did diminutive belittle his name

    That the glorious meaning denies consenting

  116. يقومُ لها المالُ المؤثَّل والعِدَى

    إذا قام للنار الحصادُ المحزَّمُ

    But beloved names tend to be nicknamed

    Amongst families in endearment dressing

  117. فتى عزمه سيفٌ حسامٌ وسيفُه

    قضاءٌ إذا لاقى الضريبةَ مُبْرمُ

    And no harm if one is nicknamed so

    While meaning sublime at hearts amassing

  118. يباشرُ أطرافَ القنا وهْو حاسرٌ

    ويلقى لسانَ الذمّ وهْو مُلَأَّمُ

    He is family拢s whitest bud blossomed

    The best of Musab拢s crop thereafter lasting

  119. مُقبَّلُ ظهرِ الكفّ وهّابُ بطنها

    له راحةٌ فيها الحطيمُ وزمزمُ

    Falsehoods about him collapsed thereafter

    Only what hearts realise remaining.

  120. فظاهرُها للناس رُكنٌ مُقبَّلٌ

    وباطنها عينٌ من العُرفِ غيلمُ

    A youth not said in youth signifying

    But for his elderly conduct arresting

  121. فتى لو رأى الناسُ الأمورَ بعينهِ

    لما جهلوا أن المحامد مَغْنَمُ

    Of aromatic plants rained upon by dew

    Imbibing while the spate is coursing running

  122. يدُلُّ عليه السائلين ارتياحُهُ

    ووجهٌ بسيما الأكرمين مُسوَّمُ

    If they sniff seats he occupies once

    A sneeze responding or muffling

  123. إذا سئل استحيا من اللَّه أن يُرى

    بموضعِ مَرْجُوٍّ وراجيه يُحرمُ

    Not tanned by musk but his foot naturally

    Musk diffusing without apprehending

  124. يرى شرَّ يومَيْ ماله يومَ كسبهِ

    وأفضلَ يوميه إذا ناب مَغْرَمُ

    A youth no day goes without his favours

    Or fortune or calamity to him destined

  125. فتى حسنتْ أسماؤه وصفاته

    فأضحت بها أيدي الكواعب تُوشمُ

    Doing good or bad all pass judgement on him

    While best deeds at his side standard setting

  126. ولو وسمَ الناسُ الجباهَ بمدحهِ

    إذاً لاستلذوا الوسمَ والوسمُ يؤلمُ

    Favours and trials pass brothers in life

    While calmly caring never fretting

  127. إذا ما أسرَّتْ أنفسُ القومِ ذِكْرَه

    تبيَّنتَهُ فيهم ولم يتكلموا

    Content if sustenance suffices his needs

    Whether dearth or plenty life testing

  128. تطيبُ به أنفاسُهُ فتذيعُهُ

    وهل سِرُّ مسكٍ أُودِعَ الريحَ يُكْتَمُ

    Goodness he does voluntarily challenging

    Or bad in ignorance pride regretting

  129. فتى كَمُلتْ فيه الفضائلُ كلُّها

    هنيئاً له الحظُّ الوفاءُ المتمَّمُ

    One whose will decisive sword wielding

    And sword deals justice whenever testing

  130. فلا خلَّةٌ منها أضرَّتْ بخلَّةٍ

    على أنه في كُلّها متقسَّمُ

    A gallant, either meeting alone the troops

    Or troops when meeting, gallant arresting

  131. وما اقتسمتْ شتّى الفضائل واحداً

    فكاد من التقصير فيهنَّ يسلمُ

    His tranquility a composed lion拢s

    And face like the composed but brighter dressing

  132. إلى أيّ ما فيه قصدتَ حسبته

    هو الغرضُ المقصودُ فيه الميمَّمُ

    He is the lion prowling once grasslands

    Another lodging between cups pressing

  133. ليُنْظَمَ فيه ذلك الدرُّ سُلّكَتْ

    مريرتُه والدرُّ في السلك يُنظَمُ

    Circling companions or beautiful ladies

    Wisdom of God thereby progressing

  134. خلالٌ جفا عنها الجفاةُ خلائقاً

    وخلقاً وهل للدرّ في الحبل مَنْظمُ

    Whether visited by guest or melancholic fit

    Neither denied hospitality nor blessings lessening

  135. وما زال عبدُ اللُّه يعلم أنه

    قديماً لهاتيك الشناشنِ أخزمُ

    For each visitor made ready convenience

    The guest greeted, the sorrowed consoling

  136. تبيَّن فيه وهْو في المهدِ أنه

    سيرفعُ من بُنْيانه وسيدْعَمُ

    But if different context another might lessens it

    Might whereby troubles get redressing

  137. وأنْ سوف يحييه بما هو فاعلٌ

    إذا هو واراه الضريحُ المطمطمُ

    Guided is he by a very just wisdom

    Before fate拢s tribulations souls fortressing

  138. لذلك أقفاه وسمّاه باسمه

    وفي الحقّ يُقْفَى مثلهُ ويكرَّمُ

    If errored never confused thereafter

    Nor failing thereafter feels regretting

  139. وما كان لاستصغارهِ صَغَّر اسمَهُ

    أبى ذاك مَن معناه فخمٌ مفخَّمُ

    By it the misguided get guided from loss

    To sanity拢s path ascending progressive

  140. ولكنَّ أسماء الأحبة لم تزل

    تُصَغَّرُ في أهليهمُ وتُرَخَّمُ

    A gallant whose decisions swords enforce

    And his sword applies justice without wresting

  141. وما ضرَّ من أضحى له اسمٌ مُصغَّرٌ

    ومعنى مُجَلٌّ في الصدورِ معظّمُ

    Composed, appearance of lion in stillfulness

    And aura lion拢s but brighter dressing

  142. هو الغرة البيضاءُ من آل مُصْعبٍ

    وهم بعده التحجيل والناس أدهمُ

    He is the lion once strutting grasslands

    Another lodging between cups repressing

  143. لتَفتَرَّ عنه في مواطن جَمَّةٍ

    رُزَيْق فما مفترُّها عنه أهتمُ

    Accompanying a herd or beautiful herding

    Wisdom of God mysteriously meshing

  144. كفاها به من مَضْحَكٍ يومَ زينة

    ومن مَكْلح في الحربِ حين تَجَهَّمُ

    Whether visited by guest or melancholic fit

    Unfailing in hospitality nor blessings lessening

  145. ثنايا لعمري وُضَّحٌ لا يشينُها

    ونابُ عضاضٍ مِقْصلٌ حين يَضْغَمُ

    Prepared for every visitor his equippage

    The guest welcomed, sorrowed souls redressing

  146. ألكنِي إلى عمرو بن ليث رسالةً

    لها حين يدوى الغيبُ غيبٌ مُسلَّمُ

    But if different context might in one like him

    Sorrow thereby is culled caressing

  147. فإنا غدونا نحمدُ اللَّه أوَّلاً

    فواتحَ من حمدٍ بحمدك تُختَمُ

    Managed by very equitable wisdom

    Guiding thereby life拢s puzzles distressing

  148. على نعمةٍ ألبستناها جديدةً

    هي الوشي حُسْناً والحبير المنمنمُ

    No confusion entangles if fate misleads

    For by him difficulties get expressing

  149. لك المسمعُ المصغَى إليه إذا غدت

    لبوساً لنا والمنظرُ المتوسَّمُ

    Hopeful my prospects having attached

    To your secure bond, am I submitting?

  150. رعيتَ سدانا بالأمير فكلّنا

    بذلك ممنونٌ عليه ومُنْعَمُ

    Came insolently with novelty wearing

    Until wearing white hair that is dimming

  151. توخّى بنا المرعى المرِيءَ نباتُه

    وجنَّبنَا المرعى الذي يُتَوَخَّمُ

    And who tastes not humiliation meeting you

    When meeting exhibits utmost dressings?

  152. وذبَّ الذئابَ الطُّلْسَ عنا فأصبحتْ

    ومنها طريدُ الخوفِ والمتحرَّمُ

    I had abundant money until a good tree

    Collapsed, events contaminator, timing.

  153. وأثبتَ للأمرِ الذي يستديمه

    أواخيَّ صدْقٍ أقسمتْ لا تَجَذَّمُ

    I still hope days show me resilient

    As if under your wing securely sitting.

  154. فلا تسهمنَّ الحظَّ فيه فإنه

    جزيلٌ وما مَنْ كان مثلك يُسْهَمُ

    No fancying soul in you ever mistrusted

    Fancying thereby loss probably hitting.

  155. تحمّل ما حُملتَه من أمانةٍ

    فناءَ بها منه ضليع عَثمثَمُ

    Nor a failing coward if an adverse day

    With great event thereby came conflicting.

  156. حليم إذا ما الحلمُ أُحمِدَ غِبُّهُ

    وأدَّى إلى العُقْبى التي هي أسلمُ

    But assured hopes and they never slept

    If people get tired thereby quitting.

  157. جهولٌ على الأعداء جهلَ نكايةٍ

    يداوَى به جهلُ الجهولِ فيُحْسَمُ

    My concerns and resolves will wake

    The apathetic as ember igniting.

  158. وحاشاه من جهلِ الغباوة إنَّهُ

    أطبُّ بأحناء الأمور وأحكمُ

    And in hopes enticing to composure a wonder

    To a people, but you are the elite cognising.

  159. عَفُوٌّ إذا ما الذنبُ لم يعْدُ حدَّه

    إلى الوِتْرِ تَبَّاعٌ قفا الوتر أرقمُ

    If interpretation seems weird to someone

    To you all is translatable, appointing.

  160. أخوذٌ بوثقى عروتَيْ كلّ خُطَّةٍ

    تروكُ الهُوَينا للتي هي أحزمُ

    Another threw me to your pardons 忆 courtyard

    Seeing favours from you thereby transmitted.

  161. حلا لشفاه الذائقين وإنه

    على لهوات الآكلين لعلْقَمُ

    For I saw your generosity unintentional

    As if divided as soon as permitted.

  162. وداوَى من الأدواءِ حتّى أماتها

    بأدويةٍ لم يدرِ ما هنّ حِذيَمُ

    What I hope is definite and deposited

    Is unlike some trusted treasuries quitting.

  163. فذو الزيغِ يُسْتَأنَى وذو الغيث يُنْتَحَى

    وذو النفر يُسْتَدْنى وذو الشَّغْب يُوقمُ

    Ever inhaling like perfumer your praises

    Hoping thereby aroma emitting.

  164. وكانت همومٌ لا تزال تهمُّها

    رجالٌ فقد عادت مغايظَ تُكظَمُ

    I am the hopeful one if Qarun surfaces

    Qarun thereby in my eyes acquitted.

  165. ولا غروَ أن ذلّتْ له بعد عزّةٍ

    أنوفٌ عِدىً أضحتْ تُخَشُّ وتُخزَمُ

    I pride my hopes as guaranteed money

    Honouring me while my tribe envies it.

  166. تكنَّفُ هذا الدين والملكَ منكما

    يلمْلم في أنضادهِ ويرْمرمُ

    Censuring me to pay zakatcontrollers

    Though unpossessed, rightfully they finished.

  167. رسا جبلا حَزْمٍ وعزمٍ وقوةٍ

    بمثلهما تحمى القواصي وتُعْصَمُ

    After all am I then broken, deprived?

    Or living comfortably thereby acquitted?

  168. لتحملْ رقابٌ مائلاتٌ رؤوسها

    حذارِ وإلا فالمليمون ألومُ

    Denying in you disappointing the hopeful

    Unbefitting while misers get acquitted.

  169. هو السيفُ يجني كلَّ رأسٍ دنا له

    وقدماً إذا ما استصرم الدومُ يُصرَمُ

    You拢ve a nature for a year woven

    Struggling through ages crasslyspinning knitted.

  170. فأقصرَ قومٌ وانتهوا عن سفاههم

    وهامُهمُ بين المناكب جُثَّمُ

    Poets of every era hallowing its status

    In rights the convert and the intimate permitting.

  171. وإلا فإني ضامنٌ أنْ يبُزَّها

    مجاثمَها سيفٌ من البأسِ مخذمُ

    If attached to a bright star embellishing

    Or they said 'a threaded necklace' brightly lit.

  172. بكفَّي عبيد الله يهوي بحدّه

    إلى حيث أهوى الحقُّ لا يتلعثمُ

    It glories being thereby content

    If other than you becomes its patron submitting.

  173. همام إذا اعوجّتْ عوالي رماحِهِ

    غدت بين أحناء الضلوع تُقوَّمُ

    So live long, best homes are so

    If no good provision thereby is permitted.

  174. له الراية السوداء تخفقُ فوقَها

    مع النصر رايات من الطير حُوَّمُ

    Behind, a vigilant ancestry lies

    And before, glory of imposing summit.

  175. يحمنَ عليها واثقاتٍ بأنها

    ستُجزَر أشلاء الطغاة وتُلْحَمُ

    Still praised for providing rains without tiring

    As if providers thereby are permitted.

  176. وما حربهُ حربٌ إذ نابذ العدا

    ولكنها أرضٌ عليهم تُدمْدِمُ

    Passing favours and calamities of people

    Indifferently careless without submitting.

  177. أخو الرأي والبأسِ اللذيْن كلاهما

    يُكادُ به الجيش اللُّهام فيُهْزمُ

    Deeds of charity and rescue he did

    If benefiting thereby the earnest or submiting.

  178. يُرى أو يُلاقَى وحدَه فكأنما

    يُرى أو يُلاقى ألفُ ألفٍ مصممُ

    I say to one who complained failure

    An elderly man yet more failing

  179. له عندَ قدْحِ الرأي من خطراته

    وعند انتضاء العزم للأمرِ يدْهَمُ

    Who worries as days elapse

    While the days ahead promise decaying

  180. سُكونٌ كإطراقِ الشُّجاع وسورةٌ

    كسورته لا بل أشدُّ وأعْرَمُ

    Living safely while days threat sharply

    Can the safe thereafter feel betrying?

  181. هو الليث طوراً بالعراء وتارةً

    له بين آجامِ القنا متأجَّمُ

    From the narrowness of wombs to narrowness of tombs

    No breadth between, but to humans God is kinder

  182. مُساورُ قِرنٍ أو مجيلُ جوائلٍ

    من الرأي مكرُ اللَّه فيهن مُدْغَمُ

    Guiding thereby many to safety

    Defending from days shuffling without hindering

  183. ليطرقْهُ ضيفٌ أو لتطرقه نوبةٌ

    فما للقرى عن طارقيه مُعتَّمُ

    A shelter whereby days raid vainly

    As feeblest days attack undeterred

  184. لكلّ نزيل قد أعدَّ عتاده

    فللضيف ترحيب ومَثْوىً مكرَّمُ

    A hand uplifting broken ones

    Aiding thereby who days culled and is hurt

  185. وإن كانت الأخرى ولا نزلتْ به

    فبأسٌ بمثليْه من الشر يؤدمُ

    Following days拢 tracks carefully

    In family or monthly sweat

  186. يدبرهُ رأيٌ سديدٌ بمثله

    تُرمُّ مصاعيبُ الأمور وتُخطمُ

  187. إذا ما أصاب الخطبَ لم يك فلتةً

    ولا هفوةً في إثرها متندَّمُ

  188. به يهتدي الضُّلالُ عند ضلالهم

    إلى سنَنَ القصدِ الذي هو أقومُ

  189. عجبتُ لرأي يُستضاءُ ودونه

    سماءُ سماحٍ لا تزال تَغَيَّمُ

  190. ليفخرْ عبيدُ اللَّه فهْو الذي له

    بفضلِ الحجى والبأسِ والجود يُحكَمُ

  191. وما فخرُ مَنْ لو فاخر الفخر أصبَحَتْ

    مقاليدُه عفواً إليه تسلَّمُ

  192. له الحلم لو يُلْقَى على الناسِ بعضُه

    تعافوا فلم يُسفَك على الأرضِ محجمُ

  193. إلى البأس لو يمنى به الدهر مرةً

    لأغضى كما يغْضي الذليل المهضَّمُ

  194. إلى الجود لو يُعدِي أقلُّ قليلهِ

    أكفَّ الورى لم يُحْمَ للمال مَحْرَمُ

  195. خلائِقُ لو فُضَّتْ على الناسِ كلّهم

    محاسنُها لم يبق في الناس مَشْتَمُ

  196. وإن عُدَّتِ الآدابُ يوماً وأهلُها

    فذكراه ريحانُ القلوبِ المشمَّمُ

  197. هو المرسلُ الأمثالُ في كلّ منطقٍ

    يظلُّ بماء العين في الخدّ يُرْسَمُ

  198. من الشعراء الأعذبين قريحةً

    وعلّامَةٌ بحرٌ من العلم مُفْعَمُ

  199. إذا ما جَرى في حلبة عربيةٍ

    تخلّف عن شأويه قُسٌّ وأكثَمُ

  200. جواد ثنى غرْبَ الجيادِ بغربه

    فظلَّ يجاري ظلّها وهْيَ صُيَّمُ

  201. سبوق متى يطلبْ سبوقٌ لحاقَه

    يفتْهُ به غَمْرُ البديهة مرْجَمُ

  202. لحوقٌ إذا خاضَ العجاجة شقَّها

    فلا الشأو مقصورٌ ولا الوجه أقتمُ

  203. حلفتُ بأصوات الوفود التي لها

    بصحراءَ جمع مَجْأَرٌ ومُهَيْنَمُ

  204. لأصبح مَنْ سامَى الأميرَ كرائمٍ

    منالَ الثريّا وهو أعسمُ أجذَمُ

  205. أبا أحمد أنت الأميرُ بحقه

    على كل حال والمعاطسُ رُغَّمُ

  206. ألستَ الذي يُعْدى على الدهر إن عدا

    ويُنْصفُ منه كلُّ منْ يتظلَّمُ

  207. بحسبك هذي ما حُبيت إمارةً

    تُجَلُّ بها حقَّ الجلال وتُعْظَمُ

  208. ولايةَ لا عزْل وكلُّ منيحةٍ

    من الخِيم أبقى من سواها وأدومُ

  209. من اللائي يجبي أهلُها الحمدَ لا التي

    جِبا أهلها دينارُ عيْنٍ ودرهمُ

  210. سلكتَ سبيل المجد وحدَك ممعناً

    ولم يبقَ منها موطئٌ يُتَرَسَّمُ

  211. فلم نَرَكَ استوحشتَ منها لوحْدَة

    ولا جُرْتَ عن قصد لأنك مُعلَمُ

  212. وهل يوحشُ الإفرادُ من هو وحدَه

    خميسٌ تضيق الأرض عنه عرمرمُ

  213. فأصبحتَ قد غادرتَ كل ثنيَّة

    لها منهجٌ يهدي الأدلّاء لَهجَمُ

  214. وفي الناس من يسمو بهمةِ غيره

    إلى ذروة المجد التي تُتَسَنَّمُ

  215. ينامُ عن المعروف إلا مبارياً

    بمعروفه معروفَ من يتكرَّمُ

  216. وينكص في الهيجاء إلا مباهياً

    وإن كان للْحامي هنالك مَقدَمُ

  217. فيأتي من العلياء والمجد ما أتى

    كمقتحمٍ في غمرة وهو مُقْحَمُ

  218. كذاك المبادي والمسامي وإنما

    يُسامَى كريمٌ بالمكارم مُلزَمُ

  219. ولا حمد إلّا لامرئٍ ذي قريحة

    يهشُّ أخوها للتي هي أكرمُ

  220. هشاشته للماء تنسجُ متنَهُ

    شمالُ خَريقٍ وَهْوَ حَرَّانُ أهْيَمُ

  221. على حينَ لم تبعثه إلا طبيعةٌ

    تَيَقَّظُ للعلياء والناسُ نُوَّمُ

  222. بمثلك فَلْتَرْم الملوكُ ثغورَها

    فما جانبٌ يُولَى بمثلك أثلمُ

  223. علمتك فيك الخيرُ والشرُّ كلُّه

    وكلك خيرٌ عندَ منَ يتفهَّمُ

  224. وقد لُمسَتُ من صفحتيك ملامسٌ

    وجُرّبْتَ قِدْماً والمجرّبُ أعلمُ

  225. فمن كان ذا جهلٍ فإنك مُبْشَرٌ

    ومنْ كان ذا حلم فإنك مؤدَمُ

  226. وما سدّ قولٌ في فعالك خَلَّةً

    ولا وَجَدَ المدّاحُ نقصاً فتمَّمُوا

  227. وما جاوزوا إذْ أطنبوا فيك أنْ دَعَوْا

    بأسمائك اللائي بها كنتَ تُوسَمُ

  228. وما اتخذوا مدحاً إليك وسيلةً

    لأنك سيْحٌ يستقي ماءَه الفمُ

  229. ولكن رأوا دونَ الكلام ونظمِهِ

    حقيقيْن إذ أنتَ المنادَى المكلَّمُ

  230. وما ملّئتْ منك الصدُورُ بهيبةٍ

    ولا عِظَمٌ إلا وشأنك أعظمُ

  231. إذا مادحٌ أسدَى وألحمَ باطلاً

    فمدحك مسدىً بالذي فيك مُلحَمُ

  232. أقول لشاك بثَّهُ لم تزلْ به

    من الحال أسمالٌ رِثاثٌ تُرمَّمُ

  233. ألا أيها الشاكي إليَّ خَصاصة

    تضارِعهُ في السنّ بل هيَ أقدمُ

  234. ويشفق منها في بقية عمرهِ

    أمنتَ وأنفُ الدهر أجدعُ أكثمُ

  235. أمن ضيقِ مثْوى المرء في بطن أمه

    إلى ضيق مثواه من القبر يُسْلَمُ

  236. ولم يلقَ بين الضيق والضيق فُسْحَةً

    أبى ذاك أن الله بالعبد أرحمُ

  237. وأنَّ عبيدَ الله للناس عصْمةٌ

    بأيديهمُ منها عُرىً لا تُفَصَّمُ

  238. سيزجر عنك الدهرَ إن شئت زجرةٌ

    يصيخ لها خوفاً ولا يترمرمُ

  239. هو المرءُ أما مالُه فمحلَّلٌ

    لعافٍ وأما جاره فمحرَّمُ

  240. لجيرانه منه مَحَلٌّ ممنَّعٌ

    يضيم به الدهرَ الذليل المضيَّمُ

  241. وكفٌّ صَنَاعٌ تجبرُ الكسر منهمُ

    وتدملُ من ذي كَلْمهم حين يُكْلمُ

  242. وتحتاطُ من كرّ الزمانِ عليهمُ

    فتنهاه عنهم بالتي هي أحسمُ

  243. تتبع أظفارَ الزمان تَتَبُّعاً

    بآثارها في أهله أو تُقَلَّمُ

  244. فسرْ راشداً لا تَثْنينَّكَ طِيرةٌ

    كذوبٌ ولا رأي عن القصد أضْجَمُ

  245. إلى ملكٍ لا تبرحُ الطيرُ دونه

    وإن برحتْ للركبِ لم يتشأَّموا

  246. إذا ما غدا الغادي إليه فإنه

    على ثقةٍ أنْ ليس في الطير أشأمُ

  247. ترغَّم في السير القلاصُ ولا ترى

    قلوصاً إذا سارت إليه تُرَغَّمُ

  248. وإن حَفِيتْ لم تُحْذ نعلاً وذُكّرتْ

    به فرأيتَ المرْو بالبيد تُرْثَمُ

  249. يثوْبُ لها بعد الحفا عند ذكرِه

    أظلُّ وقاحٌ يرضخُ الصخرَ ميثَمُ

  250. وإن ظمئتْ قالتْ لها النفسُ شمري

    فعند ابن عبد الله عِدٌّ قَلَيْذَمُ

  251. وما تَضْربُ الأكباد نحو فنائه

    من العيس بل عفوا تَخُبُّ وَتَسْعَمُ

  252. ألا رُبَّ قولٍ فيه أمكن قائلاً

    ولو رامه في غيره ظلّ يكْعَمُ

  253. تفورُ ينابيع القريض بمدحهِ

    إذا جعلتْ في آخرينَ تَسدَّمُ

  254. أطاعت معاني الشعر فيه وأصبحتْ

    قوافيهِ حتّى قيل لي أنت مُلْهَمُ

  255. به درَّتِ الدنيا ولولاه أصبحتْ

    يعلّلُنا منها أجَدُّ مُصَرَّمُ

  256. وكان سَنام العيش قبلَ ابن طاهر

    أجَبَّ فقد أضحى به وهْو أكْوَمُ

  257. كريم التغاضي عن قوافٍ يزرنَهُ

    له مغمَزٌ فيهن بادٍ ومعْجَمُ

  258. يُثيبُ على النياتِ إن قال قائل

    فجار عن القصد الذي يتيمَّمُ

  259. غفورٌ لمن لم يوفِهِ كُنْهَ حقّه

    من المدح معطاء على ذاك مقْثَمُ

  260. وما لعبيدِ اللَّه وهو ابنُ طاهر

    على شاعرٍ لم يوفه المدح مَنْقَمُ

  261. إذا ما أثيبَ الشعرُ إن جادَ وشْيه

    أثابَ على الحمد الذي فيه يرقمُ

  262. وما تلك إلا همَّةٌ طاهرِيَّةٌ

    تميلُ إلى الأمر الذي هو أجْسَمُ

  263. قَلَتْ زُخْرفَ الدنيا فلم يكُ قصدَها

    بُرودٌ تُوشَّى أو رِياطٌ تُسَهَّمُ

  264. ولكن صميمُ الحمدِ لا شيء غيرُهُ

    أَو الأجرُ إن الأجرَ ذُخرٌ مقدَّمُ

  265. تَبيَّنَ أن المجدَ ليستْ سبيلُهُ

    سَبيلَ الملاهي عالمٌ لا يُعلَّمُ

  266. فلم يَنْحُ بالمعروف نحوَ فُكاهةٍ

    ولا نحوَ لهوٍ فيه عارٌ ومأثَمُ

  267. ولو سام سَوْمَ اللهو قامت بلهوه

    فِصاحٌ بأيديهن خُرْسٌ تَكلَّمُ

  268. أولئك لو يلهو بهنّ كَفَيْنهُ

    وكان له فيهنَّ ملهىً وَمَنْعَمُ

  269. أبا المجدِ لا يفقدْك مدَّةَ عُمرهِ

    عزيزاً فإن المجدَ بعدكَ ييْتَمُ

  270. ولا آمتِ العلياءُ منك فإنها

    لمثلك قبل اليومِ كانتْ تأيَّمُ

  271. شفيتَ من الحرمان قوماً وإنه

    لأدْوَى من الداء العَياء وأعْقَمُ

  272. وأحييتَ موتى الشعر بعد فنائها

    وربَّ مسيحٍ لم تناسبه مريمُ

  273. ولي فيك آمال وقد عَلَقَتْ يدي

    بعروتك الوثقى فهل أنا مُسْلَمُ

  274. أتيتك في عرضٍ جديدٍ طويتُه

    إلى أن لبستُ الشيبَ فالرأس أشيمُ

  275. ومثلُكَ منْ لم يُلْقَ في عرْضِ بِذْلَةٍ

    وما عذرُ منْ يلقاك والعرضُ أدْسَمُ

  276. وقد كنتُ ذا وفرٍ من المال فاقتفى

    به جَذَعٌ جَمُّ الحوادثِ أزْلَمُ

  277. وإني لأرجو أن تراني صروفُه

    منيعاً كأني في جوارك أعْصَمُ

  278. وما بطَّأَتْ بي عنك نفسٌ مُمَثَّلٌ

    لها فيك ظنّ بالمغيبِ مرجَّمُ

  279. ولا فَهّةٌ من عاجزٍ متخاذلٍ

    إذا نابه يوماً من الأمر مُعْظَمُ

  280. بل الثقةُ الوسْنَى وما زال أهلُها

    قديماً إذا ما استيقظ الناس نَوَّمُوا

  281. وإنَّ همومي بعدها وعزائمي

    لأيقظ من نارِ الحريق وأسهمُ

  282. وفي ثقة تدعو إلى الرَّيْثِ مَعْجَبٌ

    لقوم ولكنْ أنتَ أَنت المفهَّمُ

  283. إذا استعجم التأويل يوماً على امرئٍ

    فأعوصُ ما فيه لديك مُتَرْجَمُ

  284. رمَى بيَ في أخرى عُفاتك أنني

    رأيتُ العطايا منك لا تُتَغَنَّمُ

  285. لأنك لا يُعْتَدُّ جُودُكَ فُرْصَةً

    تفوتُ وإن أضحتْ لُهاك تُقَسَّمُ

  286. ولو خفت فوتاً بادرتْ بي عزيمةٌ

    لها فرسٌ عندي من الجدّ مُلْجَمُ

  287. ولكنني ممن يرى بَذْلك اللُّها

    متى شاءها حتماً من اللَّهِ يُحتَمُ

  288. أرى المالَ تحويه كمالي وديعةٌ

    لدى مُودَع لم يؤتمنْ منه مُتْهَمُ

  289. على أن ما أرجوه منك مُحصَّلٌ

    وما كل ما أودعتُه متسلَّمُ

  290. وما زلتُ كالمثري يطولُ تنسُّمي

    رجاءك مغبوطاً بما أتنسَّمُ

  291. أنا الرجل المومَى إليه إذا بدا

    بقارون بل قارونُ عنديَ مُعْدَمُ

  292. يُعَدُّ رجائي فيك مالاً محصلاً

    أُدَنَّرُ في قوْمي به وأدرهُمُ

  293. ويحسدنيه الحاسدون فموضعي

    به منهمُ مَقذاةُ عينٍ ومَرغَمُ

  294. ويُلْزمني فيه الزكاةَ معاشرٌ

    ولم يَحْوِه ملكي وبالحقّ ألزموا

  295. فهل بعد هذا كُلّه أنا آئبٌ

    خميص الحشا أم طاعمٌ ما أُطعَّمُ

  296. أبتْ لك تخييبَ المرجِّين شيمةٌ

    تَذِرُّ إذا ضنَّ البخيل وترأمُ

  297. منحْتكها حوليَّةَ النسْج لم تزل

    تعانَى مدى حَوْلٍ دكيكٍ وتُخْدَمُ

  298. يرى جَاهليُّ الشعر تبجيلَ قدْرِها

    بحقٍّ وإسلاميُّهُ والمُخَضْرَمُ

  299. إذا مِسْتَ فيها قيل وشيٌ محبَّرٌ

    على قمرٍ أو قيل رَيْطٌ مُسَهَّمُ

  300. فدونَكها مغبوطةً بك لو غدا

    سواك لها مولىً غدتْ وهي تُرْجَمُ

  301. وعشْ عيشَ ثاوٍ خير دار فما لَهُ

    على غير زادٍ صالحٍ مُتَلَوَّمُ

  302. وراءك جَدٌّ لا ينام كلاءة

    ودونك عزٌّ ذو مناكبَ مزْحمُ

  303. ولا زلتَ ممدوحاً لمطريك مَصْدَقٌ

    إذا كان للمطرينَ في الناس مَزْعَمُ
