أصبحتُ شيخاً له سَمْتٌ وأبَّهةٌ
يدعونني البيضُ عمّاً تارةً وأبا
I have grown old, with a dignified bearing and grandeur;
The fair beauties call me “uncle” at times, and “father.”
وتلك دعوةُ إجلالٍ وتَكرِمةٍ
ودِدتُ أنِّيَ معتاضٌ بها لَقَبا
Such forms of address convey reverence and honor—
I wish I could exchange them for a byname.
