1. إلهي أجرني من شُنيفٍ وزيركٍ

    من الجرُذ القرّاض والهرِّذي الخَدْشِ

    My God, save me from your wicked minister

    From the gnawing rat and the scratching weasel

  2. فإني رأيتُ الخائنين كليهما

    يعيثان في الأعراض بالقرض والخمشِ

    For I have seen both traitors

    Wreaking havoc on reputations by biting and scratching

  3. ولي سطوةٌ بعد الأناةِ مُبيرةٌ

    وإطراقةُ الثُّعبان تُؤذن بالنهش

    And I have a might after patience runs out

    And the coiling of the snake portends a bite

  4. أرى ابنَ ابنِ عثمان يُحب غُلامَه

    إذا باتَ يُعلى من مُخلخَله الحمِش

    I see the son of Othman's son loving his boy

    When he spends the night, his litter shakes

  5. يبيتُ أخو الشّطرنج أصبرَ فقحة

    وألوى على وقع الطعانِ من الهَرش

    The chess brother spends the night patient as a boil

    And turns at the impact of the piercer's scratching

  6. وأما يد البصريِّ في كل صفحةٍ

    فأقْلعُ من ميلٍ وأغرفُ من رفْش

    As for the Basran's hand in every page

    I stop at every curve and draw at every feather

  7. يُبادر في قلِع الطعام كأنه

    وكيلُ يتيم أو مُريبٌ على نَبش

    He takes the food as if he were

    The trustee of an orphan or a pilferer digging graves

  8. سأنقشُ سطراً بيِّناً في جبينه

    بأن له فصَّي زجاجٍ بلا نقش

    I will inscribe a clear line on his forehead

    That he has glass horns without engraving

  9. سهوتُ أقيلوني فإنِّي مغفَّلٌ

    وإن له شأناً أجلّ من الحرش

    I forgot, dismiss me for I am heedless

    And he has a status greater than the Guard

  10. أأوعِده بالشعر وهو مُسلّطٌ

    على الإنس والجنّان والطير والوحش

    Shall I threaten him with poetry and he is unleashed

    Upon mankind, jinn, birds and beasts

  11. ألم أره لو شاء بلع تِهامةٍ

    وأجبالِها طاحتْ هناك بلا أرش

    Did I not see him, if he wished, swallow Tihama

    And its mountains collapsed there without compensation

  12. أعِذْنيَ من تلك البلاعيمِ إنها

    دَهَنشارُ والدُّردور يا صاحب العرش

    Save me from those gluttons, they are

    Chewing wax and the dung beetle, oh Lord of the Throne

  13. يُغيرُ على مال الوزير وآله

    فينفشُ في رُغفانِهم أيّما نفش

    He raids the minister's money and family

    So he sulks in their loaf of bread quite the sulk

  14. على أنه يَنعى إلى كل صاحبٍ

    ضُروساً له تأتي على الثور والكبش

    Moreover he complains to every lord

    Of molars that come upon bull and ram

  15. يُخبّر عنها أنّ فيها تثلُّماً

    وذلكمُ أدهى وأوكدُ للجرش

    He reports about them that they have caries

    And that is more painful and definite to scrape

  16. ألم تعلمُوا أن الرّحا عند نقرها

    وتجرِيشها تأتي على الصُّلب والهش

    Do you not know that when the grinders are tapped

    And scratched, they come upon the firm and weak

  17. فلا تَقْبَلُوا ذاك التفارق واحْذَروا

    شَبَاه ولو أمسى مُسجّىً على نعش

    So do not accept that separation and beware

    Of similarities even if laid out on a bier

  18. هو الطاحنُ الأزْوادَ في كل حالةٍ

    من الدهر والوثَّابُ عنها إلى الحش

    He is the one who grinds discord in every case

    Of fate and bounces from it to foolishness

  19. له فسواتٌ في السراويل جمةٌ

    إلى فسواتٍ تسبقُ الفتحَ بالفش

    He has holes in his pants aplenty

    To holes that precede the opening by rending

  20. وقد نلتُ من عرض العُثيميِّ ما كفى

    فلا تكُ وخْشاً للتعرض للوخش

    And I have gotten from the Uthaymi’s honor enough

    So do not be fearful of exposing his shame

  21. على أنني قد نِكتُه وهو باركٌ

    فلم أشفهِ حتى تراجعتُ كالكبش

    Although I have given him nicknames and he is innocent

    I have not quenched him until I recoiled like a ram

  22. فدعْ ذِكره لا قدس اللّه ذكره

    وما أنت من ذكر الحمولةِ والفرش

    Leave his mention, may God hallow his mention

    And you are not of the ilk of load and litter
