الحمد للَّه يا أبا حسنِ

ذي النِّعَم السابغات والمِننِ

Praise be to Allah, O Abu Hasan

Of abundant blessings and favors

أقطعتني مرتع الهُزال وأق

طعتَ أناساً مراتع السِّمن

You have denied me the meadows of leanness and denied

People the meadows of fatness

عرَّضْتَ حمديك أن يقالَ له

ضلَّ ضلالَ البكاء في الدمن

You presented my praise to be said about him

He went astray, straying the straying of weeping in abasement

ناشدتُكَ اللَّه يا أبا حسن

في حرمة لم تُذَل ولم تهُن

I beseeched you, O Abu Hasan

In sanctity that was not disgraced or dishonored

لا ينصرفْ عنك من يَمُتُّ بها

وحظُّه حظ عابدِ الوثن

He who clings to it does not turn away from you

And his fortune is the fortune of the worshipper of idols

يشكوك لا مُظهِراً شكايته

إياك لكن شكايةَ الزمن

Complaining to you not displaying his complaint

To you but the complaint of time

ومن شكا دهرَه شكاك وهل

تكنى عن الروح خارج البدن

And whoever complained of his time complained of you, and does

The soul suffice apart from the body?

أنت الذي صُرِّف الزمان به

فأنت إن ذُمَّ وهو في قَرن

You are the one who time was disposed by

So you, if blamed while in an eon
