  1. ومُنْزِلِ الوحْيَ على نبيِّهْ

    لأُنزلنَّ الشعر من حَبيِّهْ

    The sender of revelation to His prophet

    I will send down poetry from his love

  2. على الخُزاعيِّ وخَطَّابِيِّهْ

    مدحاً ترى الحِكمة في صَبِيِّهْ

    In praise of the Khuza'i and Khatabi

    You will see wisdom in his youth

  3. ويونسُ الأسواقِ في عرْبيِّهْ

    في حَضرِيِّ الشعر أعرابيِّهْ

    فرزدقيِّ الطَرْز أغلبيِّهْ

  8. ما شئتَ عجّاجِيِّهِ رُوْبِيِّهْ

    لم يتقاصر عَنْ مُسَيبيِّهْ

    Whatever you wish of passionate soft

    Did not fall short of Musayyab

  9. ولا الزُّهيريِّ ولا كعبيِّهْ

    بل الكُلَيبيِّ وتغلبيِّهْ

    Nor Az-Zuhri nor Ka'bi

    Rather Al-Kulaybi and Taghlibi

  10. مُوشي بُرْد المدح شَرعَبيِّهْ

    سَيفيِّ وقع القِدْحِ نشابيِّهْ

    Frosty praise, cloaked

    Sword of piercing satire, venomous

  11. كلاهما أذْعنَ مِنْ سَبيِّهْ

    بلَمْلَمِيِّ الحكم كَبكبيِّهْ

    Both have yielded from his captivity

  12. غَشَمْشَميِّ السَّيلِ مأربيِّهْ

    سِلْميِّه أسعد من حربيِّهْ

    Torrential, Maribi

    Peaceful better than warlike

  13. مُسترجَحِ العقل مُهَلَّبيِّهْ

    مُفَضَّلٍ في العلم صَقْعَبيِّهْ

    Sound mind, twisted

    Superior in knowledge, hilltop

  14. مقدم في النحو قُطربيِّهْ

    رفْعِيِّهِ خَفضِيِّهِ نَصْبيِّهْ

    Foremost in grammar, redolent

    Raising, lowering, placing

  15. طريفه غير مُؤدبيِّهْ

    تُعليه عن رُتْبةِ مكْتَبيِّهْ

    Witty, not disciplined

    Above the station of scribes

  16. مُقفّعيِّ النثرِ عَتَّابيِّهْ

    لا مُجْتَوى القُرب ولا مابيِّهْ

    Prose, reproving, chiding

    Neither familiar nor cordial

  17. لَحِقِّ مولاهُ وأجنبيِّهْ

    ما شئتَ من مرأى ومن حَبيِّهْ

    For his Master and foreign

    Whatever you wish of love and affection

  18. تجرُّراً والدهرُ في غَبيِّهْ

    جارٍ من اللُّؤمِ على كلْبيِّهْ

    Dragging, and fate in its absence

    Flowing from baseness over his dog

  19. ومن تعديِّه على ذئبيِّهْ

    ليَجتني لي الصَّفْوَ من مَجْنيِّهْ

    And from his transgression over his wolf

    To reap for me the elite from his harvest

  20. جِيدَا من الغيث بعقربيِّهْ

    Plentiful from the rain at Scorpio
