1. تتجافى جنوبُهم

    عن وطيءِ المضاجعِ

    Their passion shuns the pillow’s touch,

    Each man lives in dread and longing.

  2. كلهم بين خائفٍ

    مستجير وطامعِ

    They've left the joys of clandestine nights

    To starry skies their eyes are thronging.

  3. تركوا لذة الكرى

    للعيون الهواجع

    They fear the stars that light the gloam

    Rising after those that rose before,

  4. ورعوا أنجم الدجى

    طالعاً بعد طالع

    If you could see them groan and moan,

    Wringing hands so raw and sore,

  5. لو تراهم إذا همُ

    خطروا بالأصابع

    And pressing cheeks into the dust,

    With eyes that weep till they are burning,

  6. وإذا هم تأوَّهوا

    عند مرِّ القوارع

    "Spare us, our king so wise and just,

    All craft and cunning you are learning!

  7. وإذا باشروا الثرى

    بالخدود الضوارع

    Forgive the sins our faces show,

    For yearning eyes wet with their weeping,

  8. واستهلَّت عيونهم

    فائضاتِ المدامع

    None can forgive us, this we know,

    Except you—the best source of keeping."

  9. ودعوا يا مليكنا

    يا جميل الصنائع

    Their prayers met with a swift reply

    That left all hearers wondering over.

  10. أعف عنا ذنوبنا

    للوجوه الخواشع

    "None can use me as merchandise.

    Devote yourselves, and win my favor.

  11. أعف عنا ذنوبنا

    للعيون الدوامع

    Give me your souls, for I hold treasure

    To guard whatever you deliver."

  12. أنت إن لم يكن لنا

    شافعٌ خيرُ شافع

  13. فأُجيبوا إجابة

    لم تقع في المسامع

  14. ليس ما تصنعونه

    أوليائي بضائع

  15. تاجروني بطاعتي

    تربحوا في البضائع

  16. وابذلوا لي نفوسكم

    إنها في ودائعي
