1. قُلْ لمنْ ألبسَ الجمالَ جمالا

    بالمعاني وهيبةً وجلالا

    Say to the one who adorned beauty with meaning, grandeur and majesty

    O moon, you do not cease to be in perfect,

  2. أيُّها البدرُ لا تزل في كمالِ ال

    أمرِ بدراً وفي النَّماءِ هِلالا

    Commanding as a full moon, and in growth as a crescent

    How was the consequence of your moderation? It was

  3. كيف كانتْ عُقْبى اقتصادكِ كانت

    صحَّةً مستفادةً واندِمالا

    Health that is beneficial and tranquility

    And the balance of temperament as you were granted

  4. واعتدالاً مِنَ المزاجِ كما أُو

    تيتَ في الخُلْقِ والخلاق اعتدالا

    In creation and by the Creator, balance

    So God did that because you have not ceased

  5. فعلَ اللَّهُ ذاك أنك ما زل

    تَ المرضَّى ما ارتضى فعَّالا

    To cure the sick with what He desired, actively

    O most high in station, no lowly one's place

  6. يا عليّ المكانِ لا يتعالى

    كوضيعٍ مكانُهُ يتعالى

    Rises up high, his place rises high

    May God thank that closeness to the people and enriching them when they ask

  7. شكرَ اللَّهُ بَذْلَكَ القُربَ للنا

    سِ وإغناءَ فضلكَ السؤَّالا

    You do not cease to be near every healthy person complaining of isolation and emaciation

    And by my life if you came close in meeting and attaining you became far from reaching

  8. ما تزالُ القريبَ من كلّ عافٍ

    يشتكي خلةً ويشكو هزالا

    And a hand made obligatory upon you a right that you do good deeds

    May God thank that He preferred you with sight and opinion

  9. ولعمري لئنْ قربْتَ لقاءً

    ونوالاً لقد بعُدتَ منالا

    And position until you surpassed men

    God made people's composition smooth and made your livelihood easy flowing

  10. ولقد أوجبتْ عليك يدٌ لل

    لَهِ حقٌّ أنْ تُحسنَ الأعمالا

    While thanking when you spend willingly, accepting

    And receiving, reciprocating reception

  11. شُكرَ أنْ فضَّلتْك مرأىً ورأياً

    ومحلاًّ حتى فضلتَ الرجالا

    And when I spoke this seeking more

    Connection newly found, rather union

  12. جعل اللَّهُ طينَة الناسِ صلصا

    لاً وأجراكَ سائحاً سلسالا

    My apology for imposing on you is a sin

    So lessen my stumbling, you lengthened speaking

  13. وبحقّي أقولُ فيك بأني

    لم أجدْ موعدَ المُنى فيك آلا

    By my life I have come with a great crime

    With my apology, and I spoke badly

  14. لمْ تزلْ مانحي سؤالاً وطوراً

    مانحي عِشرةً أراها نوالا

    And my apology for my apology embarrasses you

    So imposing on you increased day by day and at night saddens me

  15. عِشرةً تملأُ القلوبَ نسيماً

    ونعيماً ونخوة واختيالا

    A pact with my palm for your palm’s favor is a pact

    That prevents the insistent asker from asking

  16. ونوالاً يُنيلُني كلَّ سؤلٍ

    ويقيني الخضوعَ والتسآلا

    Except that I see gifts as obligations

    And livelihood always and shade

  17. فمتى ما أردتُ كنتَ جنوباً

    ومتى ما أردتُ كنتَ شمالا

    Always tepid, frowning, careless

    And the brother of resolve dislikes negligence

  18. وتمامُ اليد استماعُكَ فضلاً

    من كلامي لا يُعجبُ العُذَّالا

    And the gathering of the two caravans is impossible

    For some people, though you will not see it as impossible

  19. إنما الحسنُ نسخةٌ فيكَ خُطَّتْ

    بيدِ اللَّهِ فامتثلها امتثالا

    And a little that lasts is more hope and love

    With a little that picks the fruits

  20. وامتثالُ الجميلِ ما في حُلاه

    نسخُهُ من جمالهِ الإجمالا

    I am a servant who exceeded my limit and became

    As if I do not know how to lessen

  21. لك نفسٌ وطينةٌ لا تُذمَّا

    نِ فشبِّه بجوهرَيْكَ الفعالا

    And my nature and composition

    When it met one who imposes led me to imposition

  22. شاكراً إنْ غدوتَ مُعطىً قَبُولاً

    واقتبالاً مقابِلاً إقبالا

    Whenever I struggled you followed my struggle so I scattered right and left

    Only because my soul shows me

  23. ولما قلتُ هذه مستزيداً

    صلةً مستجدةً بل وِصالا

    Everything through your palm’s generosity as possessions

    And so you are, for you every day

  24. واعتذاري من امتياحِيكَ ذنبٌ

    فأقِل عثرتي عمرتَ مُقالا

    A downpour if downpoured gives drink

    You give pleasures and feed us generosity so it pours heavy rain

  25. قد لعمري أتَيْتُ جرماً عظيماً

    باعتذاري وقد أسأت المقالا

    So my service is mortgaged to accommodating a neighbor

    Whom I accept as sufficient and connected

  26. واعتذاري من اعتذاري بوجهٍ

    أنت أعديتَهُ الحياءَ الزُّلالا

    And what I accept is a small part

    While you carry the great burden

  27. فغدا يكثرُ امتياحكَ في اليو

    مِ وأمسى يبُلُّني إخضالا

    So remove my defect, for my livelihood

    Prevents the excuse of one who wants to be sick

  28. عهدُ كفّي بفضل كفيكَ عهدٌ

    يمنعُ السائل الملحَّ السؤالا

    Its measure, when you weigh it

    You will find it a mithqal of your thousands

  29. غيرَ أني أرى الجوائزَ وبْلاً

    وأرى الرزقَ ديمةً وظلالا

    The measure of what I asked for in livelihood is little

    And though it shocked me and overwhelmed me

  30. فاترٌ دائمٌ وجَمٌّ مُخلٌّ

    وأخو الحزمِ يكرهُ الإخلالا

    And whenever you wish to increase, what

    Prevents rain from flooding the plains

  31. واجتماعُ الرّفدينَ فهْو محالٌ

    عند قومٍ ولن تراهُ محالا

    Or reversing the Euphrates or holding back the flood

    If it met a channel so it flowed

  32. وقليلٌ يدومُ أرْجى وأحجى

    بمقلٍّ ينفِّلُ الأنفالا

    The power of my will cannot prevent me from the obligatory generosity in the state of wealth and generosity

    O living one, the heavy rains moistened its roots

  33. أنا عبدٌ عدوتُ طوري وأصبح

    تُ كأني لا أعرفُ الإقلالا

    Follow it continuously with pouring rain

    O my rescue when I seek rescue

  34. وأدلَّتْ خليقتي وبناني

    حين صادفتْ حاملاً إدلالا

    And my hopes when I lose hopes

    That perfection in you has a right

  35. كلّما جُدتَ لي تبعتُك في الجو

    دِ فبذَّرتُ يمنةً وشمالا

    To demand it from your hands perfection

    And gifts renew your palm

  36. ليس إلا لأنّ نفسي تُريني

    كلَّ شيءٍ بجود كفيْك مالا

    So renew the state of your palm’s planting

    Family of Wahb, God gifted you the gift of God

  37. وكذا أنتم لكم كلَّ يوم

    مستنيلٌ إذا أُنيلَ أنالا

    So you have not ceased to have misgivings about it

    You have an awe that makes lions cower

  38. تمنحونَ اللُّهَى وتَغْذُوننا الجو

    دَ فينثالُ بالعطايا انثيالا

    And justice that summons deeds

    I said when matters were referred to you

  39. فارتَهنْ خِدمتي بإجراءِ جارٍ

    أرتضيهِ كفايةً واتصالا

    Kingship settled in its rightful place

    The earth was darkness and inferno

  40. والذي أرتضيه جزءٌ صغيرٌ

    ولك السؤددُ العظيمُ احتمالا

    Vastly afflicting the people with tribulation and misguidance

    So you invented intellects that are suns

  41. فأزِح عِلَّتي فإن كفافي

    يمنعُ العذرَ مَنْ أرادَ اعتلالا

    And originated from generosity shade

    We looked with pure, truthful eyes

  42. إن مقدارهُ متى تزِنُوهُ

    تجدوه من ألفِكُمْ مثقالا

    When an imaginer presented fantasies

    So we found your excellencies to be elites

  43. قلَّ مقدارُ ما سألتُ من الرز

    قِ وإنْ هَوَّلَ احتكامي وهالا

    And we found the excellencies of some people to be common

    How much hope in you provoked beauty

  44. ومتى شِئْتَ أنْ تزيدَ فماذا

    يمنعُ الغيثَ أن يَسُحَّ السّجالا

    And giving from you harbored camels

    You did not cease to be promising, granting

  45. أو يردُّ الفراتَ أو يردعُ السَّي

    لَ إذا وافقَ المسيلَ فسالا

    A drink to fulfill hopes

    A well-wisher hopes for your favor and turns

  46. ليس في وسع قُوَّتي منعي المف

    ضالَ في دولةِ الغِنى الإفضالا

    To you with superior virtues pouring

    So you set out to the son of misery, mounts

  47. يا حياً سحَّ مُزنُه الوابلُ الهط

    طالُ أَرْدِفْهُ دِيمةً مِهطالا

    And dismount to the son of bounty, mounts

    If you are above others rise and people rise

  48. يا غياثي إذا استرثتُ غِياثي

    وثمالي إذا فقدتُ الثمالا

    But you are not, and others are not, alike

    Masters of people are like mountains and you

  49. إن ذاك الكمالَ فيك غريمٌ

    يتقاضاك في الأيادي الكمالا

    Are like stars that surpass mountains

    The directions of your abode were touched by gentle, light breezes

  50. والعطايا مجدِّداتٌ لكفي

    كَ فجدّدْ لغرسِ كفَّيكَ حالا

    From winds that drive heavy clouds

    Who fears loss of bounty upon him

  51. آلَ وهبٍ هنِّيتُمُ هبة اللَّ

    هِ فما زلتُمُ لها أشكالا

    Family of Wahb, you will not fear loss

    God’s bounty loved your brother

  52. لكمُ هيبةٌ تشرّدُ بالأسْ

    دِ وعدلٌ يستنزلُ الأوعالا

    And his youth so it does not desire loss

    In Abu Al-Qasim the beloved and the distributor what prevents

  53. قلتُ إذ رُدَّتِ الأمورُ إليكُم

    نزل الملكُ دارَهُ المحلالا

    The bored from boredom and fatigue?

    We did not find a lover, if the longing inclined

  54. كانتِ الأرضُ ظُلمةً وحروراً

    أوسعا الناس فتنةً وضلالا

    In his rule he wishes to move

    If bounty saw a peer of your brother

  55. فاخترعتم من الذكاءِ شُموساً

    وابتدعتُم من السماح ظلالا

    And his son, let it replace the substitutes

    I do not covetously insist except I say openly, permitted

  56. قد نظرنا بأعينٍ صافياتٍ

    صادقاتٍ إذا مُخيلٌ أخالا

    May those cheeks become sandals

    For you, time is fit for sandals

  57. فوجدنا فُضولكم صفواتٍ

    ووجدْنا فضول قومٍ فضالا

    I have, through God, a master like him if a like can be mastered

    We did not find him refusing wants and if

  58. كم رجاءٍ فيكم أثار جمالاً

    وعطاءٍ منكم أناخَ جِمالا

    He was above he devised means

    Qasim, the distributor of gifts and pure deeds

  59. لا برحتُم مؤمَّلينَ مُنيلي

    ن نَوالاً يحقّقُ الآمالا

    May God increase him in rising high

    Ask me about Abu Al-Hussein whose dawn appeared

  60. يرتجي فضلكمْ مرجٍّ ويتلو

    علُّكُم بالفواضِلِ الإنهالا

    So he enriched lest the hyenas kindle

    That is a figure prepared for imagination

  61. فتشدُّونَ لابنِ بؤسَى رِحالاً

    وتحطُّونَ لابن نُعمَى رحالا

    And he imagines to be seen imagining

    With knotty, pure pacts except unity

  62. إنْ تكونوا علوْتُمُ وعلا النا

    سُ فلستم وغيركمْ أمثالا

    And rights, pure except dissolution

    So you see his honor under his protection

  63. سادةُ الناسِ كالجبالِ وأنتُمْ

    كالنجوم التي تفوقُ الجِبالا

    And you see his money humiliated through him

    And when a man protects through a generous one

  64. يمَّمتْ ربْعكم حُداةٌ خِفافٌ

    من رياحٍ تُزْجي سحاباً ثِقالا

    Or a man is seen protecting through one who switches

    That beauty and handsomeness in him was completed

  65. مَنْ يخَفْ من زوالِ نُعمى عليه

    آل وهبٍ فلن تخافوا زوالا

    With traits you do not doubt disorder in

    The flaw in those traits is that they are not touched

  66. عشقتْ نعمةُ الإله أخاكُم

    وفتاهُ فما تريدُ الزَّيالا

    By a fault that would be singled out in them

    I take refuge in them from the evil eye except

  67. في أبي القاسم المحبَّب والقا

    سم ما يمنعُ المَلُولَ الملالا

    I hold back the eye from striking beauty

    Twisting in slenderness and coquetry

  68. لم نجد عاشقاً إذا عَدَل المع

    شوقُ في حُكمِهِ يريدُ انتقالا

    I did not say “here it is” for anything besides convention

    And poetry rides horrors

  69. إنْ رأت نِعمةٌ نظيرَ أخيكم

    وابنَه فلْتبدّلِ الأبدالا

    A logic that casts metaphors and names

    The one given a nickname and does not care

  70. لستُ ألحَى أليَّةً حاسديكُمْ

    غيرَ أني أقولُ طِلقاً حلالا

    Jahili in, as you knew, but

    You do not see him dealing with ignorance

  71. جُعِلتْ تلكم الخدودُ نعالاً

    لكُمُ الدهر إن صلُحنَ نِعالا

    And my imposing praise on you is something

    The mind placed below it as a restraint

  72. ليَ منكم مواليَ اللَّه مولىً

    مثلُهُ إن حكاه مثلٌ يُوالى

    Praise only adds more light

    To their meanings through kindling

  73. ما وجدناهُ للرَّغائبِ مُحتا

    لا وإن كان للعُلا محتالا

    You are like a sword whose water is from it and poetry

    Is like the whetstone that excels in sharpening

  74. قاسمٌ قاسمُ العطايا الصفايا

    زادهُ اللَّه بالعلا استقلالا

    And that which poetry adorns itself with you is smoother

    Than its smoothing over you, no doubt

  75. سائلي عن أبي الحسين بدا الصب

    حُ فأغنى أن تستضيء الذُّبالا

    And excuse the concision of a loyal one

    Who did not fear prolixity boring

  76. ذاكَ شخصٌ مهيَّأٌ لاختيالٍ

    وهْو يختالُ أن يُرى مختالا

    No, by no means, your right is fulfilled

    By a little, and that is what will not be changed

  77. ذو عقودٍ أبَيْنَ إلا انعقاداً

    وحقودٍ أبيْنَ إلا انحلالا

    God forbid that your meeting bore you

    Of what adorns you like jewelry

  78. فترى عِرضَهُ عليه مصُوناً

    وترى ماله عليه مُذالا

    But when were you not loving and admiring

    Your praisers’ praises, long

  79. ولما المرءُ صائناً بكريمٍ

    أو يُرى المرء صائناً بدَّالا

    Or when did I not see much as little

    To you in truth of intention and borrowing?

  80. تمَّ ذاك الجمالُ والحسنُ فيه

    بخلالٍ لم تشكُ منها اختلالا

    Except that I say after this

    You are the One, the Almighty, exemplar

  81. عيبُ تلك الخِلالِ أن لم يملَّحْ

    نَ بعيبٍ يكون فيهنَّ خالا

    And my saying is the length of my measure, and if

    I said my saying was the length of your measure, it would prolong

  82. مالها عُوذَةٌ سوايَ فإنّي

    أردعُ العينَ أنْ تُصيبَ الجمالا

    If I intended praise in this letter I would have wearied you with dragging out

    Saying whenever you did and acted, no doubt words would overflow

  83. هاكَها والهاً إليك عروباً

    تتثنَّى رشاقةً ودلالا

    Except that I say so God may see

    My words competing with deeds

  84. لم أقُلْ هاكها لشيءٍ سوى العا

    دة والشّعْرُ يركبُ الأهوالا

    Then I say after this

    You are the One, the Almighty, exemplar

  85. منطقٌ يطرحُ الكُنى ويسَمّي

    منْ يُكنَّى ولا يُبالي مُبالا

    And my saying is the length of my measure, and if

    I said my saying was the length of your measure, it would prolong

  86. جاهليٌّ كما علمتَ ولكِنْ

    لا تراه يعاملُ الجُهَّالا

    If I intended praise in this letter I would have wearied you with dragging out

    Saying whenever you did and acted, no doubt words would overflow

  87. واعتدادي عليك بالمدح شيءٌ

    جعلَ العقل دونَهُ لي عِقالا

    Except that I say so God may see

    My words competing with deeds

  88. ليس للمدحِ في معانيكَ إلا

    أنه زادَ نُورَهُنَّ اشتعالا

  89. أنت كالسيفِ ماؤُهُ منه والشع

    رُ يدا صيقل تُجيدُ الصّقالا

  90. والذي يكتسى بك الشعرُ أسْنى

    مِن سناهُ عليك لا إشكالا

  91. وابْسُط العُذرَ في اختصارِ وليٍّ

    لم يخف من إطالةٍ إملالا

  92. لا ولا خال أنَّ حقك يقضى

    بيسير وذاك ما لنْ يخالا

  93. حاشى لله أن إخالك تستث

    قلُ مما يزينك الأثقالا

  94. بل متى لم تكن تحبُّ وتهوى

    من أماديح مادحيكَ الطوالا

  95. أم متى لم أرَ الكثيرَ قليلاً

    لك بالحقّ نيةً وانتحالا

  96. غيرَ أنّي إذا بلغتُ مُرادي

    لم أزِدْ فيه بعد ذاكَ قِبالا

  97. فأردتُ اقتصاص حالي فلمْ أُلْ

    قِ إلى غيرهِ من القول بالا

  98. لو قصدتُ المديحَ في هذه الخط

    بةِ ماطلْتُكَ الجراءَ مطالا

  99. قائلاً كلَّما فعلتَ وأفعا

    لُك لا شكّ تغمُرُ الأقوالا

  100. غيرَ أني أقولُ حتى يرى اللّ

    هُ مضاهاةَ قوليَ الأفعالا

  101. ثم إني أقولُ من بعدِ هذا

    إنك الواحدُ العزيزُ مِثالا

  102. ومقالي بطول قدْري ولو قُلْ

    تُ مقالي بطول قدْرِك طالا
