فكن في ذاك أُستاذا

ألا واجعلْه تطفيلاً

ذليق الحد نفّاذا

Indeed, make it a parasite

Of elegant limit, penetrating

كتطفيل سليمان

على إمرة بغداذا

Like Solomon's parasite

Upon the princess of Baghdad

تعالى اللَّه ما أمضا

ه في التطفيل يا هذا

Exalted is Allah, how resolute

He was in parasitism, O this one

أغذَّ السير من آمُ

لَ للتطفيل إغذاذا

Feed on the biography of the hopeful

For parasitism, feed

وخلى طبرِسْتان

على الدَّيلم آزاذا

And leave Tabaristan

To the Daylam wrathful

ولما جاء بغداد

رأيتَ الناس أنباذا

And when Baghdad came

I saw the people busybodies

فما ألَّف أشتاتاً

ولا شتَّتَ شُذَّاذا

He brought together no factions

And dispersed no dissenters

ولا اسْطاع لمن رجَّى

به الإنفاد إنفاذا

Nor aided whom hoped

Through him aid

بلى شارك في الطُّعم

ة قَوَّاداً ونَبَّاذا

Rather, he shared in the banquet

Pimps and wine-servers

أباح النيك أحراحاً

واستاها وأفخاذا

Permitted the good wild joys

And ravished them and thighs

ففي بغداذ حاناتٌ

تُباهي طِيزَناباذا

So in Baghdad are taverns

Rivaling Tiznabaza

أمور لم تكن تَرضى

بها بِنَّا وكَلْواذا

Matters you would not approve

For us, O convent and hermitage
