1. المالُ يكسِبُ ربَّه ما لم يَفضْ

    في الراغبينَ إليه سوءَ ثناءِ

    Money earns blessings for its owner unless

    It brings bad repute upon the greedy.

  2. كالماءِ تأسِنُ بِئرُهُ إلا إذا

    خبطَ السُّقاةُ جِمامَهُ بدِلاءِ

    A well's ropes stay clean unless

    The water-drawers dirty its bucket-mouth.

  3. والنائلُ المُعْطَى بغيرِ وسيلةٍ

    كالماءِ مُغْتَرفاً بغيرِ رِشاءِ

    And gifts gotten with no effort

    Are like water drawn without a bucket.
