Tell the one for whom you have postponed death
There is no ship of yours that sails in my sea
I am from the purest lineage of the desert
Yet I pine for you, I who am so chaste
I have no religion that gives me hope
Of deliverance, after the ebbing of death's tide
Do not think, Nike, that this is a thing
The like of which has been or will ever be
You have two qualities from Paradise:
Its coolness, like its coolness, and its bowls
Except that its coolness is wholesome, while
In you no wholesomeness, but hidden disease
