1. يرتاح للنَّيْلوْفر القلب الذي

    لا يستفيق من الغرام وَجَهْدِهِ

    The heart that does not awaken from passion and its toil

    Finds comfort in the water lily.

  2. والورد أصبح في الروائح عبدَه

    والنرجس النِّيليُّ خادمُ عبدِهِ

    The rose has become a servant to its fragrance

    And the blue narcissus a servant to its master.

  3. يا حسنه في بركةٍ قد أصبحتْ

    محشوَّة مسكاً يُشاب بندِّهِ

    Oh, her beauty in a pool that has become

    Filled with musk mixed with ambergris.

  4. وكأنه فيها وقد لحظ الصِّبا

    ورمى المنام بِبعْده وبصدِّهِ

    As if in it, when the morning breeze glanced,

    It threw sleep away with its coolness.

  5. مهجورُ حبٍّ ظل يرفع رأسه

    كالمستجير بربّه من صدِّهِ

    Forsaken love that kept raising its head

    Like one seeking refuge in his Lord from his rejection.

  6. وكأنه إذ غاب عند مسائه

    في الماء وانحجبت نضارة قدِّهِ

    As if when he was absent at nightfall

    In the water, and the brightness of his complexion faded.

  7. صبٌّ يهدِّده الحبيب بهجره

    ظلماً فعرَّق نفسه من وجدِهِ

    A love struck one whom the beloved threatens with abandonment

    Unjustly, so he sweated from his passion.
