نفرٌ من الخلطاءِ والأصحابِ

تجري مودَّتُهُمْ معَ الأنسابِ

A group of friends and companions

Whose affection flows with kinship

مازلتُ بينهُمُ كأني نازلٌ

في منزل من صحّةٍ وشبابِ

I have remained among them as if a lodger

In an abode of health and youth

أُكفَى وأُعفى غيرَ ما مُتجشِّمٍ

تعباً ولا نصباً من الأنصابِ

I am spared and excused without being sullen

From toil or fatigue from burdens

آثرتكُمْ بمودتي وتركتهُمْ

متغيِّظينَ عليَّ جِدَّ غِضابِ

I have chosen you with my affection and left them

Fuming at me intensely angry

حتى إذا ما جاش بحرُ المُشتري

لكُمُ ففاضَ وعبَّ أيَّ عُبابِ

Until when the sea of the buyer surged

For you, so it overflowed and foamed high

وكَّلْتُمُ زُحَلاً بأمري وحدَهَ

وكذاك حقُّ الجاهل الخَيّابِ

You deputized Saturn alone with my matter

Such is the right of the ignorant backbiter

أنا منْ أصابَتْهُ الصواعقُ بعدما

رجَّى حياً فيه حياةُ جنابِ

I am one who was struck by lightning after

Hoping to live in it the life of vitality

لِيُبَكِّني الأعداءُ إني رحمةٌ

لهُمُ فكيف تظنُّ بالأحبابِ

So enemies will weep for me, I am mercy

For them so how can you think of loved ones

أَسخطتُ إخواني وأَخفقَ مطمعي

فبقيتُ بين الدُّورِ والأبوابِ

I angered my brothers and my hopes failed

So I remained between the houses and doors

ماذا أقول لمن أُراجعُ بعدما

وحَّدتُكُمْ وكفرتُ بالأربابِ

What can I say to one I will plead to after

I isolated you and disbelieved in the idols

تاللّه آملُ عدلَ شيءٍ بعدَكُمْ

أو أرتجي للظن يومَ صوابِ

By Allah I no longer hope for justice of anything after you

Or expect the assumption to one day be right

فاز الورى من ريحكم بسحائبٍ

هطلت وفزتُ بسافياتِ ترابِ

The heir won clouds from your wind which poured down

And I triumphed with the torrents of dust
