ادعُني يا أخا العلا وادع عوّا

ساً ولو كان قبل موتي بساعَهْ

Call me, O brother of nobility, and call again

Even if it is an hour before my death

ولك الله والنبي وأهلو

ه شهوداً والمسلمون جماعه

By Allah, the Prophet, his family

As witnesses, and the Muslims as a group

أنني لا أروع قلبك بالأك

ل لما فيه عندكم من بشاعه

That I do not upset your heart with eating

What you consider disgusting

فإذا جاءني رسولُك أحكم

ت أموري بالأكل قبل المجاعه

So when your messenger comes to me

I will settle my eating affairs before hunger

وتزوَّدت عند ذاك من الما

ء بحسب الإمكان والاستطاعه

And provision myself with water

As much as I can and am able

فإذا البول لطَّني لم يكن قص

دي إلى المستراح والبلاعه

So when the urine saturates me

My intention is not for the toilet or urinal

وتوجهت في الخفاء إلى الشط

ط ففي مثله لمثلي قناعه

And I head secretly to the shore

For the likes of me, that is enough

وفرشت المنديل تحتي وصير

ت تُكايَى خفِّي مع الدُّرَّاعه

And I spread a handkerchief beneath me

And make shifts covertly with the gown

فارض مني بذا اليمينِ وإن كا

ن يميناً عليك فيها شناعه

So be satisfied with me on this oath

Even if it is distasteful to you
