ما لَقينا من ظَرفِ ضرطةِ وهبٍ

صَيَّرت أهلَ دهرِنا شعراءَ

The talent we found in Whether ibn Wahb

Has made the people of our time into poets

هي عندي كجودِ فضلِ بن يحيى

غيرَ أنْ ليس تَنْعشُ الفُقراءَ

To me it is like the generosity of Fadl bin Yahya

Except it does not give life to the destitute
